When we share stories about the arrests and convictions of child predators, it is to raise awareness about the devastating reality of child trafficking and exploitation and to recognize the work being done to protect children.

For the criminal, an arrest may mark the end of the story.
For the survivor, it may be just the beginning.
The beginning of learning how to feel safe again. Of rebuilding trust. Of discovering that the past does not have to define the future.

At The Demand Project, we are committed to walking alongside survivors on that journey. Through Mount Arukah, our residential campus, we provide a safe place where girls can begin to heal and build a future beyond the abuse they have endured.

But we need more dedicated, compassionate people on our campus team to bring more survivors into that safe environment and give them the support they need.
The next chapter of a survivor’s story matters. And the right people can help make it possible.

Mitchell and Roberts are convictions and sentences. Stepp’s case is charges only, not a conviction.

At The Demand Project, we educate communities through presentations and trainings, advocate for victims, run a residential program for trafficked minors, and offer nonresidential support for survivors of any age.

💙 A day of learning, helping and exploring what the future could hold. 💙

One of our residents recently spent the day shadowing Mrs. Martin, a special education teacher at Oaks High School.

She got to experience both high school and elementary classrooms, work with students one-on-one and as a group, and even lend a hand in home economics.

It was a busy day, but she made the most of every opportunity.

At Mount Arukah, survivors are given opportunities to discover their strengths, explore their interests and begin imagining a future that once may have seemed out of reach.

Every experience is another step forward. ✨

The conversation around the Cornell case has spread quickly, with millions of people now discussing consent, accountability, bystander intervention, and the role of the 57 people in the group chat.

At The Demand Project, we believe conversations like this are an opportunity to talk about prevention.

We are here to ask a question:

**What do we do when we see something that doesn’t look right?**

Sometimes prevention looks like knowing what consent actually means. Sometimes it looks like recognizing when someone is too impaired to make decisions. And sometimes it simply means being the person willing to say, “Hey. This isn’t okay.”

There’s another part of this conversation we can’t ignore: reporting does not guarantee accountability. Research examining more than 288,000 sexual assault cases found that only about 8% ultimately resulted in a conviction. That statistic is embarrassingly low for The United States, and it needs to be higher.

**Prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Speaking up is part of it.**

Yesterday, Kristin presented to physician assistants at the 53rd Annual OAPA CME Conference in Oklahoma City!

Healthcare providers are often on the front lines of identifying victims of trafficking and abuse, making medical education a critical component of our mission. Equipping PAs with the tools to recognize red flags, understand trauma-informed care, and take action can make all the difference for a patient in crisis.

Thank you to the Oklahoma Academy of Physician Associates for prioritizing victim identification and trauma care in this year's conference. When healthcare professionals are informed, lives are saved. 💙
