Education does not happen in isolation, but rather it is shaped by the people, cultures and communities around us. And when we take the time to understand those communities, we gain a deeper understanding of the place we call home.
That is something worth remembering not only on Indigenous Peoples Day, but throughout the year.

Today, on Indigenous Peoplesā€™ Day, we honor the rich histories, cultures and contributions of Indigenous communities across our nation.

Here in Southern Arizona, we recognize and express our gratitude to the Tohono Oā€™odham Nation and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, whose ancestral lands, traditions, knowledge and stewardship continue to shape our region.

As we reflect on the past and look toward the future, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and enduring presence of Indigenous peoples and reaffirm our commitment to learning, respect and meaningful partnership.
