📢 Calling all translators - we need your views and insights on our campaign.

Five years on from its launch, we’re working with Dr Pete Freeth (London Metropolitan University) to find out more about the campaign’s impact.

Pete’s project starts with an all-important survey for translators, exploring perspectives on the campaign and experiences with front-cover credit.

Your responses will give us vital insights into the current state of front-cover credit and will help us provide members with further support to achieve front-cover credit in future.

The survey is open until Friday 19 June and should take around 15 minutes to complete.

The Griffin Poetry Prize, established in 2000, is the one of the world’s most generous prizes for a first-edition poetry collection written in, or translated into, English.

This year’s five-book shortlist includes 𝘽𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙑𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨, translated by Daniel Borzutzky and Alec Schumacher from the Spanish of Elvira Hernández (Cardboard House Press)

The shortlisted poets and translators will read at the Griffin Poetry Prize Readings on June 3 at 7:00pm ET at Toronto’s Koerner Hall—an annual highlight for poetry lovers.

With a C$130,000 prize—60% to the translator and 40% to the original author for translated works—and C$10,000 awarded to each finalist, the Griffin Poetry Prize continues to elevate poetry from around the world.

Set a reminder to tune in on YouTube on June 3 at 7:00pm ET: https://www.youtube.com/live/h6ulfvE5aPA?si=5bTlXhs8ffR0yAtn

"Before I started translating the book Mer de Glace by Polish poet Małgorzata Lebda, I made a list."

Grammatical trickiness, tactile awareness, and inserting articles: Don't miss this essay by ALTA member Mira Rosenthal at Poetry Daily! https://buff.ly/EE9npTF

Translating these poems felt like participating in an effort of articulation akin to sucking the sweet flesh off a cherry till the sharp pit was the only thing left in my mouth. I had to resist my own tendencies toward poetic diction in favor of directness and make choices to privilege the simple wo...
