What does the future of our food system look like?

We’re excited to join Oryana Community Co-op for a special screening of Food and Country on October 14 at Milliken Auditorium. The documentary explores the people, challenges, and realities behind American agriculture and food production, and we’ll be there alongside Groundwork, Crosshatch, FLOW, The Dennos, and Grand Traverse Conservation District’s Great Lakes Incubator Farm to continue the conversation closer to home.

After the film, attendees will have a chance to connect with the participating organizations and learn more about the work happening around food, farming, and agriculture in our region.

We’re on the ballot for Oryana Community Co-op’s 2027 Groceries for Good program, and you can help us earn one of 12 spots for next year!

Every day, Oryana shoppers can round up their change to the nearest dollar to support the non-profit of the month. Additionally, Oryana chooses one day per month to donate 2% of all sales at both stores to the non-profit.

The 12 organizations receiving the most votes will be scheduled to receive Groceries For Good funds in 2027. Voting is open October 1–31, and we’d love your support.

“There are so many trees that are sitting in woodlots just rotting. There are so many trees that end up getting chipped. There is definitely a large amount of methane that’s generated and carbon that’s lost because of those activities.”

EcoCorps Program Director Jennifer Flynn recently spoke with the Woodpreneur Podcast about our green collar jobs program and her team's work diverting organic tree waste from landfills, all while developing valuable skills that help participants excel in their careers.

Jennifer Flynn rescues community trees in northwestern lower Michigan and mills them locally. Her nearest kiln is ninety minutes away.
