Gloria Borrego was a trailblazer for women in marine electronics and mechanics. Holding Heineken together around the world with Dawn Riley, the America3 Women’s Team met her when she became our tender driver and mechanic in 1995. Gloria went on to become a leader expert in large boat mechanical and electronic systems - working on large boats all over the world.

This is Gloria Borrego she was the amazing engineer and dear friend on Heineken - Dawn's second Whitbread Round the World Race. She also helped out in the beginning of Oakcliff... marveling and laughing at Vlad's Latvian electrical wiring. There is now a scholarship for marine industry professional women - over 25 - to be used for continuing training. Yes the Sapling program counts. Rising Tide Leadership Co-Founders Linda Lindquist-Bishop and Katie Pettibone were part of the historic 1995 America3 All-Women’s America’s Cup sailing team. MIGHTY MARY: Rock the Boat, a fast-paced documentary about this team will launch nationwide on September 11th in AMC Theatres.

Data shows girls who play sports are gaining more than athletic skills—they’re building the foundation for future leadership.

A new report from elf Beauty and Parity surveyed 9,500 women across the U.S., Canada, Germany, and the U.K. The findings show that women who played sports are 37% more likely to aspire to leadership roles and 50% more likely to hold them. They’re also 25% more likely to have negotiated their salaries.

Sports also shape different skills across regions. In the U.S., girls learn to advocate for themselves. In Canada, everyday athletes show greater drive and ambition. In Germany, women who played sports are 45% more likely to have been promoted multiple times. And in the U.K., women athletes stand out for being more likely to negotiate their salaries.

Aboard the Mighty Mary, a team of pioneers, world-class sailors, and Olympians set out to do more than compete: they challenged 144 years of tradition and forced the sailing establishment to reckon with its assumptions about who belonged on the water.

Isabella Robusto: Driven Different!
I met Isabella Robusto at the 2025 Women with Drive V Summit Women In Motorsports this past December in Indianapolis. She is the REAL DEAL! At lunch she shared with a few of us her crash and rehab story and all that Toyota has done to not only help her build back AND better. It lighted the emerging efforts of companies like Toyota to address women specific phsiological and safety issues within motorsports. Can’t wait to listen to this podcast with Isabella! (link below)
