Last week, our Intergenerational Summer Youth program participants and staff were invited to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York's Antonio Ratti Textile Study and Storage Center for a special tour. As our youth reflected on the importance of textiles within Southeast Asian history, the tour expanded their understanding of how textiles are preserved.

Our group had an incredible time! Thank you to the Met Museum and the Antonio Ratti Textile Study and Storage Center!

Congratulations to Kim To, our Deputy Director, for being honored on Schneps Media’s Bronx Power List!

As Mekong NYC’s Deputy Director, Kim has dedicated more than two decades to leading strategic fundraising, development, and special projects to strengthen the Southeast Asian and broader Asian American & Pacific Islander communities. Her accomplishments include leading Mekong NYC’s 2025 capital campaign where Kim helped secure capital funding to purchase the organization’s first ever permanent home.

From August 3th-5th, Mekong NYC’s Directors attended "Building CAPACD Convention: Anchored in Places, Powered by Communities" in Long Beach, California. This convention brought together hundreds of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander leaders and their allies to learn, network, and catalyze change locally and nationally.

Mekong NYC stands in solidarity with The People's Forum in light of their House Ways and Means subpoena: "This subpoena is an effort to chill speech and association, taking a page straight out of the authoritarian playbook. It is designed to silence not just The People’s Forum but to suppress our collective voice of dissent. But it will fail. We will never stop fighting for our communities, our democracy, and for justice. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us."

Join us for our annual Summer Community Event! Our fourteen Summer Youth have spent the past few weeks writing their own screenplay, designing backdrops, and rehearsing their hearts out.

👋 Say hello to our 2026 Summer Youth cohort — our biggest one yet, with 14 amazing participants!

Here is a recap of the past few weeks 🗓:
➡ Our summer youth first explored Southeast Asian history & culture, built their public speaking + presentation skills, and started writing their very own play for their final summer project ✍️🎭

➡ On July 21st, award-winning playwright Catherine Filloux led a special workshop, helping our youth develop the tools and confidence to write their play!

➡ The summer youth are now creating their backdrops and props for their play.
