Heather brought her expertise to UNHP in 2020, right before the onset of the pandemic. She had been sharing her Salesforce learning process and insights on social media, and a UNHP staff member noticed her newly developed Salesforce skills and interest in data. At the time, UNHP was working with outside consultants to implement Salesforce, and we realized that Heather’s knowledge of the platform could improve direct service initiatives through the Northwest Bronx Resource Center (NWBRC). Since then, Heather has worked to improve how our program users are served by the NWBRC by collecting data on outreach initiatives and designing new processes to expand UNHP’s reach in the Bronx. Heather's work helps us track our outcomes and communicate opportunities with the right community members. “At UNHP, there's a palpable sense of mission in the work. We take the time to listen, research, and meet people where they are, then use our gifts and talents to make a difference. It's a small, deeply committed team that gets a lot done.” Her proudest accomplishments are those that help the UNHP team better serve the Bronx community, which she does every day through essential behind-the-scenes workflow improvements that enhance the experience for our Bronx neighbors and provide access to financial and housing resources. Thanks, Heather, for being an important part of our team.

Yadhira is UNHP’s Tenant and Financial Services Associate. Professional, knowledgeable, and thoughtful, Yadhira has worked with UNHP since 2018, supporting her Bronx neighbors directly. Starting out as a part-time employee, Yadhira was soon hired full-time as a staff member of UNHP’s direct service arm, the Northwest Bronx Resource Center. “What I like about UNHP is being able to help our community and inform people about the resources we offer.” As the first point of contact, Yadhira regularly interacts with community members to understand their housing and financial assistance needs, including helping with Rent Freeze and affordable housing information. Her proudest moments working with UNHP have been when clients are approved for an affordable unit after working with Resource Center staff: “I think I get as happy as they do, knowing they have a place to come where they feel comfortable brings me so much joy.” From offering free bilingual tax services in 2018 and 2019 to watching families move into their first home, Yadhira has become an integral part of the UNHP family. We are happy to give Yadhira a little extra love to her today - her birthday! Happy birthday, Yadhira, and thank you for your dedicated commitment to your community.

Brendan began his journey with UNHP as a freelance Owner's Representative in 2014. Four years later, he joined full-time and eventually became UNHP’s Director of Real Estate and Finance. This role continued his previous work overseeing weatherization projects, apartment renovations, and exterior work, which puts him right in his element: on-site in the buildings! “I have always been taught that the most effective way to operate community housing is to get out into the buildings, and that has stuck with me.” This belief shows in his dedication to working directly with building staff and tenants to make improvements, seeing lengthy projects through from start to finish, and paying attention to small details along the way.
"Working at UNHP is special because of the people. We are a relatively small group that gets to make a big impact in the community we serve. The people I work with truly care about the work we do, and we don't shy away from the hard stuff. I enjoy getting out into our buildings and troubleshooting problems firsthand with building staff. I enjoy hearing tenants voice their concerns, whether about building improvements, safety concerns, or the overall state of the neighborhoods."
His proudest accomplishment is undoubtedly overseeing the renovation, repositioning, and refinancing of Rose Hill Apartments. The process was long and complex, beginning in 2023 and finally concluding with the refinancing of the existing HDFC mortgage with a HUD-insured loan in August 2026. This was a huge project that required help from the entire UNHP staff and other important partners; it will allow us to invest much-needed capital into this affordable senior housing project to maintain decent, affordable housing for tenants. We are very thankful for the effort that Brendan has put into this project and beyond–we couldn’t do what we do without him!

We are taking advantage of some new staff photos by .jpeg to share a bit about our valued team at UNHP. First up is someone you will know if you partner with UNHP on financial empowerment or use our services at the Northwest Bronx Resource Center: Jumelia Abrahamson.
Jumelia Abrahamson is UNHP’s Director of Programs and the Northwest Bronx Resource Center. “I love working here, that's why I’ve been here for 18 years!” Jumelia likes UNHP's open staff structure, the family feel, the autonomous and empowered vibe, and the availability of good bagels at the office! Jumelia first joined UNHP in 2008, right before she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from . She began as an intern and was hired full-time after she graduated. Jumelia initially studied International Studies because she wanted a career where she could make a long-term impact on people’s lives. At UNHP, she got to realize this dream: “Working at UNHP, we see the immediate implications of helping someone with their tax refunds, finding housing…things that will help people now and in the future. I like the on-the-ground engagement with the community where I grew up.” Her proudest accomplishments at UNHP include seeing families she has worked with for years move towards financial stability, stable housing, and a lucky few close on their first home, fighting to keep bank branches open, hearing where past interns end up after their time with UNHP, and creating and maintaining financial access in the Bronx through advocacy efforts and being part of the opening of a new credit union in the Bronx. Jumelia’s passion for helping others and dedication to the Bronx community is evident in her work; we are thankful to have her on UNHP’s team! Look for more updates on the rest of the team in the coming weeks.

Everything is Coming Up Roses at🌹 Rose Hill Apartments! 10M HUD refinance loan will yield building improvements and long-term affordability for this 119-unit low-income senior-citizen building. After more than two years of predevelopment work at Rose Hill Apartments that included repositioning the Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) on the property, performing the required LLXI façade work, and undertaking weatherization improvements, UNHP closed on a 10M refinancing loan with Bellwether Enterprise and a HUD 223F mortgage. Thank you to UNHP staff, Rose Hill board and JVB our attorney, management, social services staff, the tenants who tolerated the renovations and inconvenience. Before closing, we completed significant renovation work at the property, including pointing, brick replacement, and lintel repairs to comply with Local Law XI. Thanks to an awarded grant from the Our Bronx NYS Weatherization Program, we completed full window replacement in units, hallways, and the community room, plus LED unit and public-area lighting, at very little cost to the project. After closing, we will complete a variety of critical and non-critical renovations. Tenants have requested speed bumps in the parking lot, hallway flooring replacement, and increased social activities and trips. Solar panels and a backup battery storage system are also on the wish list for future work.
