A message from our advisor :

Obscura will hold its annual launch party for the publication of its 14th Volume on Thursday, May 11, MU-330, from 6-9 p.m. In addition to the usual food and celebration, we will be inviting those published to share their work (many as newly published authors!). Additionally, we will have a special performance from Award winning poet & performer, Noel Quiñones (more about him below). Guests are encouraged to dress up as a favorite author or literary hero, comic book heroes included!

You can also zoom into the reading/ performance from 7-8 p.m. on Zoom.

Noel Quiñones is an Emmy award winning Puerto Rican writer, actor, educator, and community organizer from the Bronx. He has performed on stages across the country including Lincoln Center, Harvard University, BAM, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Stanford University, the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston, American University, and the Honolulu Museum of Art. His work has been showcased on Huffington Post, Vibe, Tidal Music, Latina Magazine, Medium, Univision, Remezcla, Mitú & elsewhere. He is the founder of Project X, a Bronx-based arts organization, a 40 Under 40 Rising Latino Stars Recipient, and a member of the 2019 Intercultural Leadership Institute cohort. He is a recent graduate of the University of Mississippi M.F.A. program, where he was the 2019 John and Renée Grisham Poetry Fellow, winning the D.C. On Thursday, April 20th, 5-6:30 p.m., Obscura will host Rich Villar for a poetry workshop (Carman Hall Location TBD).

Rich Villar is a poet, essayist, educator, and community advocate. He is the author of Comprehending Forever (Willow Books, 2014) and several widely anthologized poems and essays. Co-founder of Acentos, a grassroots initiative promoting the Latinx voice in U.S. letters, and a member of the Títere Poets, he has taught poets and poetry in various community-based and academic spaces for over twenty years. He lives and works in the Bronx.

Obscura invites you to our Club Mixer on Tuesday, March 21st at the Student Life building, Room 111A.

Come hang with us between 3:30pm-5:00pm. Get to know current club officers, members, literary geeks, and aspiring writers like you. Share your ideas for upcoming workshops and events.

Refreshments and snacks will be served. We might even have some giveaways!

Ever dreamed of having your design published? How about illustrating a cover? Here’s your chance to share your work for the possibility of having it featured as the cover of Obscura’s upcoming 14th volume!

Raised in Mount Vernon and the Bronx, NY, she graduated from CUNY Lehman College with a BA in creative writing through TheDream.US scholarship for undocumented students.
