Homeless folks often have to choose between food and work because meal assistance doesn’t get served until after they’ve clocked in.

Enter the Breakfast Brigade. Every Tuesday morning, we wake up in solidarity, show up at day labor locations, and serve up a simple and dignified meal for people who are the aching backbone of the city. And we need your help to pull it off. Join us on Tuesdays. You have everything to gain, and only sleep to lose.

A family's freedom now has a price tag — and it's one they can't afford.⁠

Refugees, who used to have access to affordable call-in translation for their asylum interviews, are now required to drop thousands of dollars for a LIVE translator. All so people who have ALREADY been extensively vetted can be understood while they are forced to relive their trauma.⁠

We made call after call. Finally, a generous professor from the University of South Florida found a friend who will interpret for this family's interview next week — for a fraction of the going rate.⁠

We're putting the spotlight on a family you'll never meet. They gave anonymously. They gave big. Through Neighborly they donated a three-row SUV to a refugee family of eleven. Parents can now get to work and every single kid can get to school. It reminds us of the saying, "If you have more than you need, build longer tables instead of a higher fence."

Neighborly, with only 2 full-time staff members, has inherited innumerable displaced clients from the previously funded, now nearly shuttered, government-subsidized resettlement agencies, and we need all the financial and physical help we can get. Especially with the devastating impact from the “Big Beautiful Bill” which directly cut both SNAP & healthcare access for lawfully present refugees, leaving many families on the edge of starvation. This Saturday, June 6 at 9am we are asking you to do something urgent to help. We are once again hosting our Jubilee Marketplace - a monthly celebratory redistribution of possessions in the name of Jesus who gives himself to all without cost. In the last year, we’ve gone from serving an average of 5 families to roughly 40 families each month who are trying to rebuild after fleeing war and persecution. Join us physically this weekend by volunteering, or virtually by donating monthly to this event! Links in bio.

Our incredible intern just graduated, so we have to brag about her! She began volunteering with us her freshman year of college, and formally interned for the past 2 years - doing everything from admin to fundraising to assisting in all 5 of our initiatives. She dove deepest into refugee care and oversaw large events, created new ones, and has a heart that personally welcomes families seeking a new life in America. On any given day you’d find her throwing an ice-cream social in a refugee apartment complex, teaching English to Syrian mothers, bulk shopping for toiletry bags, or waking up at 5am to make bagels for day laborers. While our ministry and family will miss her dearly, she is off to fellowship that continues to align with her calling to serve people in the margins.

Throwing our nonprofit in the hat for the Community Foundation of North Florida & MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Share Your Story Grant!

For many low-income individuals and day laborers in Tallahassee, mornings present an impossible choice: secure a spot in line at the labor pool to find work for the day, or head to a local shelter for a hot meal. Because most traditional food programs serve breakfast after day laborers need to report, many are forced to start their physically demanding workdays on an empty stomach. Our Breakfast Brigade initiative steps in to close this vital gap by bringing a dignified, nourishing meal directly to those who need it most.

Every week for the past 5 years, we meet our low-income neighbors right where they are—at two local Tallahassee labor pools. We believe in providing more than just sustenance; we lay down tablecloths, set out fresh flowers, and serve a hearty feast of fresh fruit, donated bakery bread, boiled eggs from our nonprofit's backyard hens, music and games, and of course plenty of coffee. It is an act of solidarity designed to ensure that our neighbors never have to choose between feeding themselves and earning a living.

Our Impact:

800 Clients Served Annually: Each week, we consistently provide dozens of hardworking individuals with a dignified and healthy breakfast, often sending them off with extra food to take home to their families.

90+ Work Boots: Through our Needs Board we've connected donors with clients seeking essential items like steel-toed work boots, sleeping bags, tents, socks and shirts for our day laborer friends

300 Volunteers Engaged Yearly: With only a husband and wife staff, this grassroots initiative relies on the joyful service of hundreds of our local college students, neighbors, families, advocates and little activists (children included!).

By addressing this specific and often overlooked need, the Breakfast Brigade ensures that Tallahassee's most vulnerable laborers are seen, valued, and physically prepared for the hard work ahead!
