She grew up in a “5K family.” Now she’s preparing for her first 26.2. 🏃‍♀️

Meet Lauren Capote, , from Miami, Florida.

Community 5Ks became high school track. Three half marathons followed. And now Lauren is taking on a new challenge: her first full marathon in Tallahassee.

Her goal?

“As long as I finish I will be happy.”

Training means three runs a week, strength work, and some honest conversations with herself during solo early-morning long runs.

The beginning can feel boring. Discouragement shows up. But finishing those miles reminds Lauren what her body and mind can do. Hearing how proud her family is makes it even sweeter.

Her recovery routine? A nap and a good meal. Her playlist? Spanish music, rap, house, and one surprise favorite: Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” 🎶

On race day, she’s looking forward to celebrating with the friends and family who have supported her through it all.

Maybe your next step is your first 13.1. Maybe it’s moving up to 26.2. Or maybe you want another finish-line celebration with your people.

Meet Jasmine Hartin (), our next Runner Spotlight, stepping up to take on her very first official 26.2 miles right here at home! 🏃‍♀️✨

A Petersburg, Indiana native who proudly calls Tallahassee home, Jasmine has been running off and on since she was a teenager. However, after contracting COVID in 2022 and developing long COVID and dysautonomia, her entire relationship with exercise was turned upside down. Today, Jasmine doesn't take a single step on the road for granted—every mile is a milestone.

After conquering the Tallahassee Half Marathon last year, Jasmine decided she wanted to push further. While she wasn’t quite ready for the full race day distance then, she proved her resilience just one month later by running a solo 26.2-mile marathon for her birthday—all the way from the St. Marks Historic Railroad Trail to the St. Marks Lighthouse! 🌊⚓ This February will mark her very first official full marathon, and her number one goal is simple: to have fun!

Balancing life as a full-time working mom means squeezing in training runs whenever she can—before work, after work, on the treadmill, or with her kiddo. She also loves sharing the journey with local favorites, the Gulf Winds Track Club and Tallahassee Trail Runners! When she needs an extra push, she plugs into a playlist as diverse as her runs, ranging from Michael Jackson and Eminem to "Stop the Wedding" by Ash.

Her guiding motto for when the training or the race gets tough:

"Progress isn’t always linear. It’s okay to pause, rest, and recover. Just never give up on moving forward."

Jasmine can’t wait to feed off the electric crowd energy that makes Tallahassee’s race day so special.

Let's show Jasmine () some massive support in the comments as she trains to cross her first official marathon finish line! 👇💙🏁

Meet Felicia Barnes (), our next Runner Spotlight, traveling all the way from Haskell, Oklahoma, to tackle the Tallahassee Half Marathon! 🏃‍♀️✨

Felicia has been running for just over six years as a way to challenge herself physically and mentally. After crossing our 13.1 finish line last year in 3:18, she knew she had more left in the tank. Driven to prove her own growth, she’s returning to Tallahassee with a bold mission: break the 3-hour mark and chase down a sub-2:55 finish! ⏱️🔥

Her routine demands serious dedication. Felicia’s alarm goes off before the sun for 5:00 AM CrossFit workouts, followed by midweek 5Ks and longer runs on the weekends. Even when busy schedules and weather make training a grind, an eclectic playlist featuring everything from slow R&B to Muni Long, Usher, and 2Pac keeps her moving forward step-by-step. 🎶💪

Her race-day mindset?

“It’s my race and my pace—just finish!”

Felicia knows she isn't racing anyone else out there—she’s running her own race, soaking in the course energy, and celebrating every bit of progress since last year.

Drop a comment below to welcome Felicia to Tallahassee and cheer her on as she chases down that sub-3-hour PR! 👇🎉🏁

Meet Aaron Suko (), our next Runner Spotlight, taking on 26.2 miles right here at home! 🏃‍♂️🌱

While Aaron spent decades as an endurance cyclist, his running story truly began in 2021—inspired by his best friend and beloved local Tallahassee runner, the late Mike Nesius. After Mike was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Aaron committed to running through past injuries so they could share miles, race local GWTC courses, and celebrate finish lines together (often followed by Aaron making homemade pizza for Mike’s family).

Even as Mike’s health declined before his passing in March 2024, his spirit never wavered—on the morning of the 2024 race, Mike instinctively tried to get out of bed because he simply knew it was marathon day. Aaron carries that indelible courage with him every time he laces up.

Now heading into his third Tallahassee Marathon, Aaron has PR’d with each finish and aims to keep that streak going. As a local vegetable farmer, his training balances heavy physical outdoor labor with 4–5 runs a week, roller skating sessions, and dialing in deep rest and nutrition to avoid overtraining. Running headphone-free, he treats every mile as a moving meditation—focusing on breath, releasing physical tension, and soaking in his surroundings.

His race-day mantra when the miles demand everything?

"GET LOOSE! Speed and endurance are all about the breath, and gettin’ loose."

For Aaron, race morning feels like a community holiday—crisp February air, running across every corner of Tallahassee, and crossing that finish line with Mike forever in his stride.

Show some love and drop your cheers for Aaron () in the comments below! 👇💙🏁

Meet Zach Rogers (.rogers.4), our next Runner Spotlight, taking on 26.2 miles for the very first time! 🏃‍♂️💨

After running consistently for four years, Zach decided it was time to test his limits and see what he’s truly capable of. Heading into his marathon debut right here in Tallahassee, he’s not just aiming to cross the finish line—he’s chasing down an ambitious sub-4-hour goal! ⏱️🔥

His weekly training routine combines community and solo grind: hitting the FSU Run Club sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, paired with at least two solo runs around town. The biggest hurdle along the way? Conquering Tallahassee’s infamous rolling hills, powered through by classic track rotations from Billy Joel, The Strokes, and ELO. 🎸🎶

His guiding mindset when stepping out of his comfort zone:

"You’ll always regret not doing something at all more than having tried it, even if it’s new or uncomfortable."

Zach can’t wait to take advantage of the crisp February weather and feed off the crowd energy as he runs through every corner of the capital city.

Drop a comment below to cheer on Zach as he chases that sub-4 debut! 👇🏁✨

Meet Gillian Dodge (.dodge), our next Runner Spotlight, taking on 26.2 miles right here at home! 🚣‍♀️➡️🏃‍♀️

After graduating from college this past May—capping off four years as a Division 1 rower—Gillian was looking for her next big athletic challenge. While running had only been a secondary piece of her collegiate rowing days, she loved the discipline of a training block and the rush of race day. Having tackled half marathons and even a 26.2-mile row on the erg machine, she decided it was time to test her grit on the pavement.

Before committing to the Tallahassee Marathon, the furthest Gillian had ever run was seven miles! Now, she logs her miles in the afternoons after work (always capped off with a cold can of Yerba Mate to refuel). While taking the very first step out the door is always the hardest part, the reward of finishing every session makes the grind worth it.

Her mindset when the Florida miles test her stamina?

"At least it isn’t 90 degrees outside!"

Gillian is dialed in on crossing that 26.2 finish line, and she can’t wait to feel the electric hometown energy carry her through the streets of Tallahassee.

Drop a comment below to welcome Gillian to the marathon distance and send some hometown support her way! 👇🏁✨

Here's the updated marathon course. It has been measured twice! We have begun the course certification process so there may be small changes.
Three notes:
1. We love Cascades Park too. However, the trail became too congested, especially for our neighbors who had no idea there would be a marathon that Sunday morning.
2. Several of you didn't like the stadium loop, and it's GONE. You are welcome.
3. We cut short the hill up St. Augustine. Now you'll turn right on Collier Street to approach the final right on Madison Street. Last year there was a lot of traffic on Gay Street and Madison. By avoiding this intersection we'll make the course safer.
What do you think of these videos? This version is a draft. I hope to have each turn added to the video to make them easier to follow.
