We feed a LOT of people at St. Leo Food Connection—more than 151,000 visits to our locations across Pierce County each year.

And sometimes, the community feeds us!

Every Thursday, a group of wonderful women prepare a meal for our staff and volunteers. This delicious lunch is just one example.

We are honored, and well fed, by this generosity, kindness, and community. ❤️

If you have time and physical ability, please consider helping David at Urban Harvest Exchange in the next week! Several gleaning sessions are in need of support.

🍎🍐 **VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — 5 FRUIT GLEANS!** 🍑

Here's why we need more gleaners:

I recently spent **5 HOURS BY MYSELF** gleaning one property.

🌳 3 apple trees = **about 450 pounds of apples**
🌳 1 plum tree = **about 100 pounds of plums**

That's approximately **550 POUNDS OF FRUIT** picked, loaded, transported, and shared with the community from just ONE property!

Now we have **5 more gleans coming up and need your help!**

🌳 **FRIDAY, AUGUST 14**
📍 Hilltop
⏰ 12:30 PM
🍑 Plums
**2 gleaners needed**

🌳 **SUNDAY, AUGUST 16**
📍 Parkland
⏰ 12:00 PM
🍑 Plums

🌳 **MONDAY, AUGUST 17**

🍐 **11:00 AM — Lincoln District**
Pears

🍑 **1:30 PM — Lincoln District**
Plums

🍎 **4:00 PM — South End**
Apples

You can volunteer for **one glean or several. No experience necessary!**

🙋 **PLEASE COME HELP US PICK!**

Send Urban Harvest Exchange a private message with the **date and time you can help**, and we'll send you the exact location and details.

A few extra hands can make an enormous difference. Every apple, pear, and plum we harvest is fresh local food that can be shared instead of going to waste.

🌱 **Rescue the Harvest. Nourish the People.**

Thank you, Tacoma City Council, for your support of our pilot partnership with Tacoma Public Library!

We're grateful for the opportunity to work alongside library staff to expand access to healthy food where children and families already gather. Thanks to the Council's unanimous approval of $15,000 in contingency funding, we'll be able to provide healthy snacks and meals through this innovative collaboration and evaluate its impact for the future.

Together, we're building a stronger, healthier Tacoma—one neighborhood at a time. 💙📚🥪

Free lunches are available until Aug. 28. Previously, staff had been purchasing snacks on their own for kids in library programs.
