Running a nonprofit is a great joy! But it has also brought a lot of growth in education. Our ED wants to make sure that she is always growing and learning, never settling for second best.
She has gone through a few nonprofit labs, learning as much as possible and applying it to daily practice to watch EASE grow.
Jewel is back in Lake City for her second month with the Francis Marion Non-Profit Leadership Institute.

If you had to dig a giant hole the size of a football field down to 20 feet deep with precise edges and additional smaller tunnels what tool would you use?

You wouldn't pick just one tool. You'd bring in a variety of items to get the exact result you need.

Why is it that when it comes to education, we only provide one tool?
There are many options available. The students should be able to work with what they need to succeed. That's the whole reason we have Section 504 for the Rehabilitation Act. That's why there are IEPs - to level the playing field. Each student receives what they need for success. But when it comes to deaf education, the ball is often dropped.
We can do better! Let's start now!

The roots of American Sign Language (ASL) run deep.
On April 15, 1817, the American School for the Deaf opened its doors in Hartford, Connecticut. Founded by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc, it was the very first permanent school for deaf students in the United States.
It was right here that French Sign Language blended with local American signs to officially form ASL!

The rain came.
The waters rose.
We moved locations.
Not exactly what we could have predicted or hoped for in terms of weather, but the people!!! We have some great people in our corner!
FUN was had!
