Beloved Community

Beloved Community is part of One Big Tent which is part of Partnering Together. Our investments of money, time and talents are making a difference in our neighbor’s lives. Through One Big Tent and Partnering Together we are helping to provide for a 365 night a year overnight shelter, Laundry Love, Bike Love, and One Big Tent helps our neighbors with bus passes, showers, paying bills, providing rent to secure housing, and navigating systems. This is what Love can do! Keep it up Beloved.

Partnering Together Portage County has hired its first executive director as volunteers continue renovating the former Odd Fellows lodge on Church Street into a year-round overnight homeless shelter.

Contemplative Community

The Contemplative Community is a group of individuals who use different contemplative prayer practices to deepen their life with God, who is Love. Contemplative practices are grounded in silence, listening and presence. Our main practice is Centering Prayer, which is hosted most Tuesdays at 6:15 pm. This is a time of 20 minutes of silence and listening. We also host other practices, such as walking the labyrinth, Contemplative mornings, Contemplative walking, and breath prayers.

Centering Prayer is on Tuesdays @ 6:15 pm.
The Prayer Room opens @ 6:00 pm

The East Central Synod of Wisconsin acknowledges that it is located on the original and ancestral homelands of the Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi peoples, and we give thanks for their presence here since time immemorial. We also wish to recognize and honor all our Indigenous siblings who have and continue to call this land their home.

We, the East Central Synod of Wisconsin, acknowledge that the indigenous peoples of Turtle Island have experienced immeasurable grief and loss for generations, due to the actions and inactions of white colonizers and subsequent leadership. We confess that Christianity played a major role in this atrocity, which resulted in loss of life, culture, language, spiritual practices and homelands for our indigenous siblings. We lament that this history is often skewed in favor of colonizer history, and continues to sever or unfairly burden relations with current day indigenous siblings.

We therefore commit ourselves to the hard work of dismantling harmful and racist structures in our church body, to educate ourselves and others about the full history of the past. We will uplift and listen to the wisdom of our indigenous siblings who still reside within our synod, including the Brothertown, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, and Oneida Nations, the Sokaogon Chippewa Community, and the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans. We commit ourselves to education and relationship building that does not burden our indigenous siblings, and pray that the Holy Spirit might guide us to a right relation with them in the future.

What a Gatheirng it was on Sunday, October 11th!

Valerie Barske did such a beautiful job connecting the truths from the Gospel and Psalm 23 to her lived experiences with the people of Okinawa. Her witness of love and mercy helped us to begin to learn and experience what it means to choose Joy as an act of resilience in the midst of the valleys of the shadow of death through which we too often find ourselves walking. Thank you Valerie!
