Meet Steve McCarthy, Board of Directors President at Common Good Philanthropies.

Steve challenges us to think bigger, push beyond what’s expected, and explore bold ideas that can move our work forward. His forward-thinking perspective helps set Common Good Philanthropies apart and keeps us focused not only on the needs of today, but on what could be possible tomorrow.

That perspective is backed by decades of nonprofit leadership. Steve recently retired as Executive Director of United Way St. Croix and Red Cedar Valleys and previously served as Executive Director of Envision Greater Green Bay and President and CEO of Curative Connections.

Throughout his career, Steve has worked alongside older adults and people with disabilities, bringing that experience and dedication to his leadership of our Board today.

We’re grateful to have a Board President who continues to challenge us, guide us, and encourage us to think boldly about what comes next.

At The Commons Community Nonprofit Center, nonprofit organizations have a space where ideas can grow and collaboration can take shape.

Recently, the WOW Collaborative brought together leaders from across Wisconsin. They built on ideas from previous gatherings and continued important conversations around health and wellbeing. This is what we imagined The Commons to be: a welcoming, accessible space for nonprofits to gather, think creatively, and move meaningful work forward.

As Wisconsin’s long-term services and supports (LTSS) landscape continues to change, Common Good Philanthropies and Envision Greater Green Bay are looking ahead by listening closely to what organizations are experiencing today as we work to build a more resilient future.

Across the state, nonprofits are adapting to new technologies, demographic shifts, workforce challenges, and changing expectations in how they support older adults and people with disabilities. To better understand these realities—and the possibilities for tomorrow—Common Good Philanthropies has partnered with Envision Greater Green Bay to launch the Wisconsin Statewide Discovery Survey.

We invite leaders and professionals working in LTSS to add their voice to this statewide effort. More than one person from an organization is welcome to participate, as different roles and perspectives can help provide a fuller picture of the field.

The survey takes approximately 12–15 minutes to complete and will remain open through October 5, 2026 (Extended Deadline!) Responses are completely confidential and will be reported only in summary form. Statewide findings will be shared publicly after the survey closes to support learning and planning over time.

The Statewide Discovery Survey is the first step in a three-year partnership with Envision Greater Green Bay to bring Strategic Foresight to Wisconsin-based nonprofits working in the LTSS sector. What we learn will inform future opportunities designed to help organizations anticipate change, explore possibilities, and plan for what comes next.

The Building Independence Project from the Disability Service Provider Network (DSPN) has announced their new fall training dates!

Building Independence is a workshop series designed to empower those that self-direct their own services. Hiring and managing your own Direct Support Professionals can come with a lot of stress and be difficult to navigate. That’s why we’re proud to fund DSPN and this virtual, free training series that gives people the tools and knowledge to feel more confident managing their care teams. 🧡
