Building a stronger future for local youth takes an entire community, and we are so inspired by the momentum behind our Capital Campaign to expand opportunities for youth and teens at the Schierl Center! 💙✨

Thanks to extraordinary local generosity, a $1 million matching gift is actively at work for our campaign through October 30.

As we look ahead to the future, we love highlighting different pieces of our expansion plans, like the brand-new kitchen and cafeteria space. 🍎🥦

Food is fundamental to youth development. For many Club members, a warm meal after school provides the energy they need for academic guidance, creative arts, and sports. With this planned kitchen, we’ll be able to serve more youth hot, nutritious meals every day while giving Club members hands-on cooking and nutrition programs that teach lifelong healthy habits.

Along with a dedicated Teen & Workforce Development Center and enlarged elementary learning rooms, these new spaces will work together to double our daily capacity from 170 to 340 youth and teens.

Kick off your Thanksgiving holiday by giving back in Stevens Point! 🍂🦃 We are looking for energetic volunteers to join us for the Festival Foods Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Eve or Thanksgiving Day in support of our Club youth.

To show appreciation for your time, every volunteer gets an official Turkey Trot shirt and an entry into a drawing for TWO Green Bay Packers tickets! 👕🎟️ On top of that, outdoor shift volunteers will score a free, cozy event beanie to keep warm while cheering on the crowd. 🧢⚡

Whether you come solo, with family, or grab a group of friends, it’s a fun and rewarding way to make a big impact in our community before sitting down for dinner. 💙

When a student was brought into our GPS caseload due to multiple absences and failing grades, it took a few meetings for them to open up. They shared how anxious they were about returning to school after living out of state and moving back and forth between households due to family jobs. They weren't struggling because they lacked intelligence—this student was remarkably bright—they were simply drowning, overwhelmed by unorganized lockers and missing work, and lacked that steady touchstone during the transition to junior high.

Thanks to both Ben Franklin Administration and our GPS Program, we were able to catch this student early. With a safe space to breathe, a Student Success Specialist to help tackle that giant pile of locker papers, and basic supplies like folders and a zipper binder provided by GPS, everything changed. Working step-by-step on goals, this student completely turned their semester around and finished with all As and Bs! 🎉

Many students navigate heavy obstacles, from juggling life in two households to lacking the resources or adult support for everyday school projects. The GPS room is more than just a place to get homework help; it’s a safe zone where youth get to make mistakes, get creative, and know they have a caring adult in their corner to guide them through the process.

Because of support programs like GPS, youth are empowered to focus on their potential and build a strong foundation for a bright future. 💙🌟

Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community and the incredible momentum behind our $1 million matching gift, we have officially reached 83% of our Capital Campaign goal! 🌟

Every gift brings us one step closer to making this essential vision a reality for families across Portage County. A major highlight of this expansion is the new kitchen and cafeteria, which will allow us to serve warm, daily meals and provide hands-on nutrition education to more Club members than ever before. Together with the addition of a dedicated Teen & Workforce Development Center and expanded spaces for elementary academic guidance, this expansion will double our daily capacity at the Schierl Center from 170 to 340 youth and teens.

With the October 30 matching gift deadline fast approaching, we are deeply grateful to every neighbor, partner, and business leader helping us cross the finish line to build a lasting foundation for local youth! 💙

Meet Our Club: Junction City Extension School Site!

As part of our rapid growth across Portage County from 2007 to 2014, the Boys & Girls Club focused on placing high-impact programs right where youth need them most. Our Junction City Extension site was established to ensure local children have seamless access to supportive out-of-school care right inside their own school environment. Each day after school, Club members participate in hands-on learning, STEM exploration, creative art projects, and physical activity, all anchored by encouraging staff guidance and academic support. We are proud of our history in Junction City and look forward to continuing to help local youth grow, learn, and thrive!

“A Club parent has expressed their gratitude and appreciation for our grab-and-go meals. They shared how helpful it is to have a warm meal for them and their daughter every night, especially on busy evenings. This parent also thanked us for having food bags available as an added support each week to help feed their family.” 💙

Through our vital partnership with Backpacks 4 Hope at Woodlands Church, we are able to distribute between 75 to 90 food bags every single week across our Club sites and local schools.

Weekend hunger is a real challenge for many local children who rely on school meals during the week. To make support as accessible and dignity centered as possible, there are no applications or requirements to receive a bag. At our Club sites, bags are placed right near the entrance so families can simply take what they need, no questions asked. In nearby schools, counselors help connect bags directly with students who will benefit most.

Whether it’s a warm meal after Club or a bag of groceries to carry a family through the weekend, these resources give our youth the nutrition they need to thrive.

Building a stronger future for local youth takes an entire community, and together, we are reaching an inspiring milestone for families across Portage County. Thanks to extraordinary local generosity, a $1 million matching gift is actively at work for our Capital Campaign through October 30. This matching gift is directly fueling critical facility expansions to meet our community's growing needs.

At the heart of this expansion is a new kitchen and cafeteria space. Because food is fundamental to youth development, this new kitchen will dramatically expand our capacity to serve hot, nutritious daily meals while offering Club members hands-on cooking and nutrition programs that teach lifelong healthy habits.

Alongside the new kitchen, the expansion creates a dedicated Teen & Workforce Development Center to prepare older youth for the workforce, while also providing expanded elementary spaces for academic guidance and creative arts.

Together, these new spaces will double our overall daily capacity at the Schierl Center from 170 to 340 youth and teens. Transformational initiatives like this succeed when local business leaders, community partners, and neighbors unite around a shared vision, and we are deeply grateful for the visionary partnerships helping us build a lasting foundation for generations to come.
