"He wasn’t acting out because he was a bad kid. He was reacting because he felt unheard." 💔
When one of our staff members, Natalie, first started at the Club, she was warned that a certain member was "one of the hard ones." But instead of keeping her distance, she chose to listen.
Over the years, that relationship grew from behavioral redirections to mutual respect, shared handshakes, and a life-changing moment of trust. 🤝
One day, after a tough time at school where he felt entirely misunderstood, this member shut down. He pushed everyone away... until Natalie asked him to take a walk. In our reset spot, he finally opened up. He later shared it was the first time an adult hadn’t yelled at him or assumed he’d done something wrong.
For the very first time, he felt heard. ✨
Today, he is in 7th grade. He’s more mellow, still loves the gym, and still drops by Natalie's desk for those signature handshakes; his way of saying, "You still matter to me." 🏀❤️
At the Boys & Girls Club, we see the potential in every single child; even when they are having their hardest days.
This is why giving to the Boys & Girls Club is so critical. Our youth don't just need a place to go after school; they need a place where they belong. They need mentors like Natalie who see beyond their behavior and show up consistently until trust grows.
Every dollar you donate helps create a safe haven for children who need it most. Help us keep showing up with patience, consistency, and heart. 🎒🏆
