It’s time for another feature, and today we’re highlighting the Fritz & Julie Schierl Center in Plover! 💙✨

The story of this location dates back to our organization's very beginnings in 2002. Founders of The Noel Group and Travel Guard, John & Patty Noel, shared a powerful vision to create a Boys & Girls Club in Portage County; giving children from all walks of life a safe, positive place to go after school and during the summer. After hosting a public community forum at Ben Franklin Junior High School, a dedicated group of community leaders formed our first Board of Directors, hired Executive Director Kevin Quevillon, and officially opened our doors!

Thanks to broad community support, our Club grew at an astonishing rate across Stevens Point and Plover. In March 2023, following a transformative $1 million gift from longtime supporters Fritz and Julie Schierl, our Plover site was officially renamed the Fritz & Julie Schierl Center to honor their incredible legacy of community leadership and dedication to local youth.

Today, the Fritz & Julie Schierl Center continues that mission of excellence. We serve youth attending McDill, Plover-Whiting, and Roosevelt Elementary, as well as Pacelli and Tomorrow River Schools. Our Club members enjoy daily nutritious snacks and meals, alongside high-quality programming in Creative Arts, STEM & Education, Life & Workforce Readiness, Health & Wellness, and Sports & Recreation. From a community vision in 2002 to a thriving hub today, the Fritz & Julie Schierl Center remains committed to building great futures every single day. 🌟

When we invest in our youth, we are investing directly in the future of Portage County. 💙✨

Our Expanding Opportunities Capital Campaign goes far beyond constructing new rooms and updating facilities at our Schierl Center. It is an investment in the overall strength, health, and economic future of our entire community. The young people walking through our doors today; from our youngest elementary Club members to our high schoolers; are tomorrow’s local business owners, trade professionals, healthcare workers, educators, and civic leaders.

By expanding our facilities, we are creating dedicated spaces for early learning, hands-on exploration, and workforce readiness. Youth of all ages gain the confidence, real-world skills, and character needed to succeed at every stage of life. At the same time, new wellness areas, expanded program spaces, and updated dining facilities provide safe, supportive environments where local youth build mental resilience, learn teamwork, and develop into strong community leaders. When we equip our young people to thrive, we support working local families and ensure Portage County remains a vibrant place to live and grow.

Best of all, your investment goes twice as far right now! Thanks to a generous $1 million matching gift, every dollar contributed to the campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar. That means your support today has double the impact on the future of our local youth and entire community.

When our youth succeed, our whole community prospers. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter future and building the next generation of leaders from the ground up.

Welcome to our new series: Meet Our Clubs! 🏫✨

Each week, we’re highlighting one of our Club sites across Portage County to share what makes each location special and the programs offered to local youth!

To kick things off, we’re starting where it all began for our physical footprint: The Berard Center! 💙

Constructed in 2015 as our first built-from-the-ground-up facility; thanks to the historic $4.2 million "Building Great Futures" Capital Campaign; the Berard Center serves as our official home base in Stevens Point and houses a full-service Food Service program providing free healthy meals and snacks year-round.

Annual Membership Fee: $110

Schools Served: Bannach Elementary, Washington Elementary, Pacelli, St. Paul Lutheran, and Tomorrow River Schools.

At the Berard Center, Club members enjoy free meals, games, and creative arts alongside hands-on STEAM and Workforce readiness. Youth also stay active with Triple Play fitness and build confidence through daily academic support and mentorship.

Stay tuned next week as we highlight another incredible site in our Club family!

Splash the Staff is officially a tradition! 💦🔫✨

Our Berard Center hosted our annual Splash the Staff water day, and this year, our incredible 5th & 6th grade Legacy Leaders took total control; planning the entire event and making the whole day happen from start to finish!

To get in on the action, Club members earned stickers to vote for the staff member of their choice by turning in two Be Great tickets. When all the votes were counted, four staff members took the plunge! Club members voted to splash Miss El, Mr. Brock, and Mr. Jay... and thanks to a last-minute crowd chant, Miss Natalie was added to the splash zone, too!

The fun didn’t stop there. Miss Briana and Miss Dakota received the fewest votes, which meant only one thing: getting PIED in the face! 🥧🤣 To wrap up the ultimate summer water day, staff grabbed the hose and turned the splash zone back on the Club members for endless smiles and cool-down fun.

We are so proud of our Legacy Leaders for showing amazing initiative and leadership to create such an unforgettable day for our Club family! 💙🙌

Expanding Opportunities: Every Teen Deserves a Place to Belong

Great communities don’t happen by accident; they are built by people who choose to invest in the future. 💙

As local youth navigate growing academic gaps and mental health challenges, having a dedicated space where they feel safe, supported, and inspired makes all the difference. That’s why we’re expanding the Schierl Center in Plover by creating a dedicated space for our teens!

This expansion isn't just about adding square footage; it’s about creating more opportunities for local teens to connect with caring mentors, build crucial life skills, and prepare for bright futures. But no single organization can do it alone; it truly takes a community.

Thanks to a generous $1 million matching gift from John & Patty Noel, every gift made through October 30 will be matched dollar-for-dollar. We have already raised over $4 million toward our $6 million goal. Help us cross the finish line and expand opportunities for even more young people across Portage County!
