Giving Tuesday is coming up in just a month, and we’re honored to be a part of this event with the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation to raise money to benefit Stanwood Middle School and Stanwood High School’s band programs! This year, we’re reaching out to the community to ask for $6000 to purchase 6 alto saxophones, one of the most popular band instruments at both levels.
We’ve decided to use this opportunity to highlight some of the creatures of myth and legend that - believe it or not - are sometimes easier to find than the number of student instruments needed in school instrumental music programs.
Let’s start out by meeting Saxsquatch. This gentle giant’s normal habitat is in jazz clubs, blues gigs, and backing bands of the 1980s. He claims to have influenced a young Kenny G and recorded the original saxophone solo for “Born to Run” with Bruce Springsteen. Saxsquatch is passionate about mentoring young jazz musicians, searching for lost recordings of Charlie “Bird” Parker, and providing music therapy to other members of the cryptid community.
