Come learn about the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 147 and all that we do for the community, veterans, and their family. This is a great opportunity to give back to and be apart of your local community. To attend and/or volunteer for most events, you do not have to be a member. We are inviting all community members to attend this Open House to come learn about what events we have coming up and how anyone can volunteer or participate. We will also be teaching about the SAL and what it stands for and what we do and why. Our events are kid and teen friendly (all age friendly). The location for the meeting is the Sons of Norway Hall @ 21098 2nd St, Conway, WA 98238.

Till Valhalla

Sharon Swartworth survived terror at home and chose to keep serving in war. She flew into
danger knowing the risks. She never turned back.
Iraq. November 2003. Night air. Rotors cutting through darkness. A UH-60 Black Hawk crossing
hostile skies near Tikrit. Enemy fighters hidden below. Missiles. Rifles. Waiting.
Sharon was on board.
She had already escaped death once.
On September 11, her office at the Pentagon was struck. Smoke. Fire. Panic. Lives lost. She
walked away alive. Many would have left the service forever.
She stayed.
She kept wearing the uniform.
She kept deploying.
She kept believing in duty.
Years later, she was back in a war zone. No courtroom. No desk. Just armor, flight gear, and
faith in her crew.
Then the attack came.
Enemy fire ripped upward.
Metal shattered.
Engines failed.
The helicopter fell.
There was no time.
No escape.
No second chance.
Sharon Swartworth was k*lled in action on November 7, 2003. One day before her 44th
birthday.
She d*ed with five fellow soldiers beside her.
She became the first female warrant officer lost in Iraq. The first woman from that war laid to
rest at Arlington.
No headlines lasted.

The original Stanwood VFW Post 2586 was dedicated in July 1932. The post was named after a young WWI Veteran, Fredrick Eglinton.

When the local Post closed in 1982 a small memorial was built just South of the 532, in a field next to the Park and Ride. Its about a block away from The American Legion, Frank H. Hancock Post 92

The memorial carried the hopes that people would remember the young man from Bellingham, WA.

Fredrick's father, William, lobbied to name a post in the young soldier's honor.
