May is Mental Health Month, a time to raise awareness and understanding of mental well-being. In this reel, Sue Shaw, Training Coordinator for the St. Louis Arc and Mental Health First Aid trainer, shares information on trauma and mental health. People who experience trauma are 40% more likely to experience mental illness, and people with IDD are 3-4x more likely than people without IDD to experience adverse events like abuse, neglect, and medical trauma.

Thank you to The Arc of the United States for their support of mental health awareness and for providing Mental Health First Aid training nationwide. St. Louis Arc has been ranked among the Top 3 Best Places to Work in St. Louis in the “Big Companies” category by the St. Louis Business Journal!
The recognition was announced at the annual awards event at the Chase Park Plaza and is especially meaningful because it was based on the feedback provided by staff in an employee survey earlier this year. We were honored alongside 15 other organizations of similar size, making this achievement even more remarkable. St. Louis Arc is truly a special place to work, and that is because of each and every one of our employees. Their dedication, passion, and commitment to our mission are what make our culture so strong.

Thank you to the St. Louis Business Journal for this recognition, and congratulations to all of this year’s honorees. Learn more here: https://bizj.us/1qq158

We wanted to share our congratulations to Blaire for reaching a huge milestone: completing her very first 5K with Girls on the Run! Blaire's parents reflected on her milestone, remembering seven years ago when they were told she may never walk independently or live without significant limitations. With a strong support system, Blaire has defied these limitations and is running through life with determination, confidence, and joy. The Arc family marvels at every incredible achievement Blaire has made, and we take pride in playing a small role in helping her along the way. It would be impossible for us to find a better embodiment of the Arc's mission of empowerment and inclusion than Blaire and her parents! Congratulations, Blaire!
