Purina has teamed up with the Coalition for Pet Progress, a network of more than 30 area shelters and pet welfare organizations, to help more pets across St. Louis find loving homes. And we're so excited to be part of it!

Pugsley Adams Showing off His Snazzy Suit and Beany Baby Costume 🎃👻

Pugsley is a gorgeous 2yo pup who would love to find a foster or forever home! He would thrive in a home that can provide routine, socialization and tons of treats and loving.

He is very treat motivated, smart and eager to please! He loves to play and run around but is also a gentle snugglebug after playtime. He loves to roll in leaf piles, and chomp on the crunchy ones! Pugsley has lived most of his life in a kennel, and he deserves to learn about all the great things about being a dog and all the great things life has to offer!

Pugsley loves hard and gives the biggest kisses. When he trusts you, he leans into your support when he gets a bit nervous. His favorite volunteer says he is one of the most loving and affectionate pups she has ever met and he truly bonds to his people on another level!

Apply to foster or adopt Pugsley on our website and his favorite volunteer can answer questiond and help set up a meet and greet! He is not on-site at the shelter and is currently living with our partner, Doggy Dojo.

Who Needs a Costume When You Already Have Bat Ears? Meet Thousand Island!

This lovely 2yo, medium sized girl is extremely sweet and friendly meeting new people. While on a weekend getaway, she was a star meeting several friends and neighbors and charmed everyone she greeted.

During strolls around the neighborhood, she showed off her polite pace and was non-reactive to people walking by.

Thousand Island also loved yard time, especially rolling in the grass and chewing on sticks. She enjoyed a good game of fetch and playing with plushie toys! She is also potty trained.

Thousand Island has been waiting too long to get into a home. She is one of our Hail Mary dogs and needs placement by 11/13. Please come meet her at the shelter! Open daily 11-6. Don’t miss out on those bat ears and the cutest little piggy snorts you can imagine!

🚨 ST. LOUIS, WE ARE IN A CRISIS. WE NEED YOUR HELP. 🚨

We have 108 dogs in a shelter built to house approximately 60.

NINE MORE dogs arrived overnight.

We have no empty kennels. No available space. And we don't know where we're going to put the next dog who comes through our doors.

This is one of the most critical capacity situations CARE STL has faced in a very long time.

And somehow, things are about to get even more difficult.

On Tuesday, necessary kennel repairs are scheduled to begin. That means 16 dogs MUST be out of their kennels by the end of Monday, and we have absolutely nowhere else to put them.

We are desperately asking our community to help us get these dogs into homes, even temporarily.

CAN YOU TAKE A DOG HOME FOR JUST ONE OR TWO NIGHTS?

Seriously. Even a couple of nights would help us tremendously. You don't have to commit to fostering for weeks or months. If you have room in your home for a dog for even a short stay, PLEASE consider helping us.

Not sure which dog would be a good fit? Just come in! Our adoption counselors will help match you with a dog who fits your home and lifestyle.

As the municipal shelter for the City of St. Louis, we continue receiving animals regardless of how full we are. The dogs don't stop coming just because we've run out of kennels.

We are doing everything we can with the space and resources we have, but right now, we need help from outside these shelter walls.

If you can foster, PLEASE come in. If you've been thinking about adopting, please don't wait. And if you can't do either, sharing this post could help us reach someone who can.

Wickham💫🐾: TEMPORARY FOSTER NEEDED

Ever thought about fostering a dog but weren’t sure if you could commit long-term? Temporary fostering is the perfect way to test the waters! It’s short-term, 100% temporary, and the shelter provides ALL the supplies you need!

❤️ FOUR DOGS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO OUR HAIL MARY LIST.

Sometimes the hardest Hail Mary dogs to explain are the ones we can't understand why nobody has adopted.

Toolin Around has spent 100 days in our shelter. Thousand Island has been here for 96. Astro for 95. They're our three longest-stay dogs, and we have so many wonderful things to say about them.

But somehow, they're still here.

Length of stay matters. We have to consider each dog's quality of life, how they're coping with shelter living, and what a humane timeline looks like for them. It's incredibly difficult when we're talking about dogs who have so much to offer but continue to be overlooked.

🐾 TOOLIN AROUND | NOVEMBER 13 7 years | 75 lbs

100 days without a single overnight away from the shelter. Not one. He's calm, gentle, potty trained, loves people, rides well in the car, and enjoys leisurely sniffaris. Staff and volunteers call him a hidden gem. We don't understand how he's still waiting.

🐾 THOUSAND ISLAND | NOVEMBER 13 2 years | 50 lbs

96 days in our care. She's had brief foster stays, and the feedback was wonderful! She's potty trained, friendly with new people, and loves fetch, plush toys, and rolling in the grass. We know she can enjoy life in a home. She just needs another chance.

🐾 ASTRO | NOVEMBER 13 3 years | 63 lbs

95 days in the shelter, and kennel life is taking a serious toll on him. Outside his kennel, he's smart, playful, friendly with new people, and loves his toys. He's strong and needs an adult-only home with someone comfortable handling his size.

🐾 BUTTERSCOTCH BLONDIE | NOVEMBER 6

Our homebody with an emotional support stuffy! She's potty trained, prefers quick potty breaks over long walks, and is wonderful with adults. She needs a child-free home and careful management of her toy guarding. Our behavior team will provide an in-home visit to help.

These dogs are scheduled for euthanasia on the dates listed. Foster, adoption, or rescue placement must be secured BEFORE their scheduled dates.

Please help us find their people. ❤️

❤️🥹 Remember Sahuaro, our handsome little Howl-o-ween model? Well, he's traded his pirate hat for a foster home, and we're getting a pretty sweet glimpse of what life with this gentleman looks like!

Sahuaro was originally adopted from CARE STL in 2022, but unfortunately found himself back with us through no fault of his own. Now, at around 6 years old, he's hoping his next family will be his forever family. ❤️

His foster describes him as a gentle, mellow, low-maintenance guy who loves meeting new people and giving kisses. He's also apparently convinced he's a lap dog, despite weighing 42 pounds. 😂

And can we talk about how sweet he is with his foster's son?! 🥹 Sahuaro has already decided that sleeping in bed with his new little buddy sounds like a pretty great arrangement. He's also had a positive introduction to the family's Frenchie, although they're taking things slowly while everyone gets comfortable.

He's still decompressing and figuring out his new routine. House training is a work in progress, and he hasn't quite figured out playing yet, but his foster says he's been wonderfully patient, quiet, and full of tail wags for the people and dogs he's meeting.

We would absolutely LOVE to see Sahuaro find a family of his own. He's already showing us what a lovely companion he can be, and we have a feeling his favorite place in the world is going to be wherever his people are. ❤️
