Homelessness doesn't always look the way we expect—and youth homelessness is often misunderstood.

This World Homeless Day, we're challenging the myths surrounding youth homelessness and bringing attention to the realities young people face every day.

Behind every statistic is a young person with their own story, strengths, and potential. With safe housing, supportive relationships, and access to opportunities, young people can build a future rooted in stability and independence.

At Covenant House Missouri, we meet young people with unconditional love and absolute respect, because every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, not just survive.

Anitra brings more than 15 years of experience in human resources, organizational leadership, and culture transformation. As Chief Human Resources Officer at YWCA Metro St. Louis, she leads workforce strategy and organizational operations for one of the region’s largest nonprofits. A dedicated civic leader and advocate, Anitra is passionate about advancing youth empowerment, equity, and community well-being, bringing a mission-driven perspective and a deep commitment to creating opportunities for individuals and families to thrive.

Kirsten brings extensive experience in human resources, organizational strategy, and people-centered leadership. As Vice President of Total Rewards at Advocate Health, she leads the strategy and administration of programs supporting 160,000 teammates. Throughout her career, she has guided organizations through significant transformation, advancing initiatives that strengthen workplace culture and organizational effectiveness. Her commitment to creating opportunities extends beyond her professional work, including establishing the Mildred M. Kibota Scholarship in 2024 to support Hawaii high school students pursuing higher education and giving back to their communities.

CJ has been a valued member of the Covenant House Missouri team for nearly two years, demonstrating professionalism, reliability, and a strong commitment to the youth served at the Genesis Crisis Shelter. His calm demeanor and ability to de-escalate challenging situations help create a safe, supportive, trauma-informed environment where young people feel respected and heard.

In recognition of his strong work ethic and leadership, CJ was promoted to Evening Team Lead. He provides guidance and encouragement to youth, supports fellow staff members, and leads by example with accountability, respect, and compassion—making him an invaluable asset to the Genesis team and CHMO’s mission.

This Be an Angel Day, Covenant House Missouri is celebrating the power of kindness, compassion, and showing others that they are seen, valued, and cared for.

For us, being an angel means showing up for young people experiencing homelessness in ways big and small.
