🎉 Shout out to Kiki, our volunteer who came down to us from Sky High Farm in New York. That's her in the center of this picture with us, in the gold Soul Fire sweatshirt! She gave us a few days of her hands, her heart and even a yoga offering here on the farm, and we're grateful for every bit of it.

Kiki, we wish you well on your journey. First California for a while, then back home to the Hudson Valley. Safe travels, friend.

And this isn’t goodbye it’s a see ya later, October 23–25 at the BUGs party down in New Orleans, the Black Farmers & Urban Gardeners Conference. Who else is coming?

If y’all can go to this I highly recommend you pay attention to how money keeps moving and falling into the deficit! The County always talks about how they’re trying to be fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars, but it doesn’t really seem that way. They hold others to a different standard than they hold themselves too. 👀

One last reminder that the St. Louis County Budget Town Hall is happening tonight (Wednesday, Oct 14), starting at 6pm. There will be a presentation that outlines our budget issues. Anyone who wishes to ask a question or speak will have the chance, and nobody needs to sign up in advance.

Tonight the St. Louis County Council votes on overturning the veto. We need you in that room.

Here is where this stands.

In 2022, this Council set aside $5 million in ARPA funds for food security in District 4. On April 15, 2025, they voted unanimously to direct $3.2 million of it to Rustic Roots Sanctuary. Not one council member voted against it.

Then it was vetoed. The money was never released.

That April 15th action has since been reviewed. Nothing was done wrong. The process was sound and the allocation should have moved forward. We lost a year and a half.

We did not stop.

68,000 pounds of food distributed. Farmers trained. The Spanish Lake Farmers Market running. The North County Harvest Hub going up right now. The Fresh Picked Farm Stop in the permitting process now.

We did all of that without the ARPA money.

Tonight the Council can finish what it started. And they will be looking at who showed up.

HERE IS HOW YOU HELP. Please do both.

1. Be in the room tonight!

Bring a neighbor. You don’t have to speak. You just have to be there.

2. Email AND call your council member today.

It takes two minutes. Here is all you need to say:

“My name is ______ and I live in ______. I’m asking you to vote to override the veto on the $3.2 million for food security in District 4. This Council already voted for it unanimously. Please finish what you started.”

Call and email. One of each. It matters more than you think.

If you have ever picked up a box from us, brought your kids out to the land, farmed alongside us, or just believe North County should be able to feed itself, today is the day to stand with us.

We couldn’t let the day go by without thanking some of our favorite farmers and the hands who’ve blessed this land over the years!

From our team (one of the BEST teams on this side of the Mississippi😉), to volunteers, apprentices, and even the smallest little farmers who’ve helped steward this land—we appreciate you more than you’ll ever know!
