π¨ BRAVE BORDER PATROL K-9 BOO AIRLIFTED AFTER VENOMOUS RATTLESNAKE BITE ππΎπ
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection K-9 named Boo is recovering after a terrifying rattlesnake bite while carrying out a mission in the Otay Mountain wilderness on Friday.
According to CBP, the 2-year-old German Shepherd was tracking a group that had crossed illegally when the venomous snake struck. His handler soon noticed Booβs condition rapidly declining and immediately called for emergency help.
In a dramatic rescue operation, air and marine agents rushed to the remote area and airlifted Boo by helicopter to an animal hospital in La Mesa. Witnesses watched in shock as traffic was completely shut down near Jackson Drive and Grossmont Boulevard while agents sprinted the injured K-9 from the helicopter to waiting veterinary care.
βHe was panting heavilyβ¦ it was really sad to see,β one witness said after watching the emotional rescue unfold.
Boo was given lifesaving antivenin treatment and is now reported to be stable and recovering. Officials say his handler is overwhelmed by the support and concern coming from the community.
βOur K-9s are very special to us,β CBP Agent Esteffany Solano said. βWeβre very proud and very happy that San Diego was able to support and be concerned about our agent.β
These loyal dogs put themselves in danger every day beside their handlers. Hoping brave Boo makes a full recovery soon. β€οΈππ
