An Angolan family crossed eleven countries with a baby to reach Thrive Center Tacoma. Their story, and why a family that followed the law is still afraid.

Credit history is one of those quiet things that shapes almost everything else: getting an apartment, buying a car, starting a business. For families arriving in a new country, that history often starts at zero, no matter what they built before.

Last week, our friends at BECU came to Thrive Center to walk our community through the basics of building credit in the U.S., step by step, question by question. A room full of neighbors, a lot of good questions, and a clearer picture of what comes next.

Another family walked through our doors today. 🏡

That brings Thrive Center Tacoma to 91 families, 324 people, and 176 kids who now call this place home while they find their footing.

And it's no coincidence we had room for them. Earlier today, the team from Immanuel Presbyterian Church rolled up their sleeves (and pulled on the gloves) to help us turn over rooms so we can keep saying yes to more families.

Every clean room is a family we get to welcome. Thank you, Immanuel Presbyterian Church Tacoma, for showing up the way you do.

New country. New city. New school. New language. And still, homework is due Friday.

The kids at Thrive are doing something hard, and they're doing it with a lot of heart. Homework Club gives them a place to ask questions, get unstuck, and be around adults who cheer them on. Some nights that looks like math. Some nights it looks like a globe and a room full of kids from all over it. 🌍

Thank you to the volunteers who show up every week. It matters more than you know.

You may have seen the story on KREM this week: at the end of October, Thrive will be moving out of our downtown Spokane building.

For more than four years, the hotel on 4th Avenue has been a first home for hundreds of families in America. Kids started school there. Parents found first jobs, saved up, and moved on to homes of their own.

Right now our focus is where it has always been: on people. Our team is working alongside every family still in our care to find a safe, stable place to land.

Here's what isn't changing. Thrive was never a building. It's what happens when a community decides to welcome its newest neighbors. That work continues in Tacoma, and we're committed to figuring out what comes next in Spokane.

Spokane, you made this place a home. Thank you. We'll have more to share soon!

This week, we spent time at the Gonzaga Service Fair alongside dozens of other local organizations, meeting students who want to get involved in their community. Some of our most faithful volunteers over the years have been college students who showed up once and kept coming back to help with homework, play soccer, or just be a friendly face to a family that's new here.

To every student who stopped by our table: thank you. We can't wait to see you again.
