Thankful Thursday! We are grateful for the support of PAL board members who give their time and talents to our community. Today, we say a big “Thank You!” to three members who have completed their board service: Manning Fairey, Phil Humphrey and Carmeisha White. Their contributions have helped strengthen our impact, and we are proud to call them our friends!

From past to possibility: Learn more about the history of Saluda, NC and how its future is being shaped long before the first visitor to the new trail arrives.

"Before the trains, this was Pace's Gap, high ground owned mostly by two families, the Paces and the Thompsons, whose names fill nearly every Saluda Township deed from the 1870s and '80s. When the railroad reached the gap in 1878, it brought prosperity ... Laid out "one mile square with the railroad exactly in the center," Saluda spread across seven hills (like Rome, the old accounts liked to say)."

The town at the top of the grade gets ready for what's next.

A huge THANK YOU to the Lubrizol Spartanburg team for spending their morning volunteering with PAL at Duncan Park! 🌿

In just two hours, these fine folks cleared out tons of invasive plant species and cleaned up a section of trail in Duncan Park. Their hard work will help create a healthier habitat for native plants and wildlife, and makes the trail a more enjoyable place for everyone who uses it. We’re grateful for volunteers who are willing to roll up their sleeves, brave the mud, and get the job done.

✨ Lightning Bug Walk & Talk ✨
Join PAL and Professor Jonathan Storm of USC Upstate on June 26th as we Do the DAN and spend an evening exploring the fascinating world of lightning bugs! (or fireflies, if that’s what you call them)
📍 Cottonwood Trail (Woodburn Road Trailhead)
📅 June 26
🕣 8:45 PM (Yes, really! That’s when the lightning bugs are most active.)
We’ll take an easy stroll through the trail, learning about lightning bug behavior, habitat, and the other wildlife that comes alive after dark.
🔦 Bring a flashlight (red-light preferred)
🐕 Please leave dogs at home so we have the best chance of spotting wildlife
