Meet at rail trail

05/28/2023

We have two trail events at Lake Whelchel, in Gaffney, to help celebrate National Trails Day - Saturday, June 3. There is a hiking option and mt. biking option. Both events will begin at 9 am and will start at the field just past the dam on Pleasant School Road. The gate will be open to allow us to park there (site of the proposed new trailhead). The event is being sponsored by the Carolina Thread Trail and we have caps on the number who can participate for both the hike and mt. bike ride.

Mt. Bike Ride will cover 7.5-mile loop around Lake Whelchel and the hike will cover approximately 3-4 miles.

Please use the links below to register. More details are included once you click on the link. Please share this email with other individuals and/or groups that might be interested.

Exciting progress!

It's and we're excited to share that the canopied bridge under the Norfolk Southern Railroad trestle at Drayton is nearly finished! This bridge is a remarkable piece of engineering, designed to withstand rising waters from the Lawson’s Fork Creek and debris falling from the train tracks above. With connections coming into Beaumont and the River Birch Trail, and the Lower Drayton Trail re-opening in the fall, the canopied bridge closes a crucial gap in the Dan system.
