For our second October lunch meeting, we'll be learning about Reach Out and Read from Isabel Smith. Our meeting will be at the Piedmint Club on Friday, October 23rd at 11:30 am. An RSVP is required.
Isabel is the Program Manager for Reach Out and Read in various counties in the Upstate and P*e Dee regions of South Carolina. She lives in Spartanburg County and has been with the Reach Out and Read organization for almost two years. Prior to working with Reach Out and Read, Isabel worked as the Assistant Registrar at VCOM-Carolinas, the Osteopathic Medical School. But she started her career with her passion at Cyrill-Westside Library, a branch of the Spartanburg County Public Library system. Isabel started working with SCPL while finishing her college degree at Converse College (now Converse University) and loved it so much that she stayed on the staff for a number of years after graduating. She is passionate about books and early childhood literacy, connecting people with valuable resources, and promoting an active lifestyle.

The featured speaker at our Altrusa meeting this Friday, August 28th is Rev. Nannie Jefferies, Executive Dir. Of Angels Charge Ministry.

Angels Charge Ministry was founded in 2014 by Pastor Nannie Jefferies. After routine visits to local jails and prisons, Nannie observed that many women were being released back into the environments they once came from.

Since its inception, Angels Charge has helped women, young and old, successfully reenter society. Angels Charge provides crucial transitional housing and comprehensive, faith-based support for 6, 12, or 18 months in order to help women change their life patterns.

Their vision is that all incarcerated women in Spartanburg County through faith based development will realize their value and purpose to become independent, positive assets to our community so that they will not return to incarceration.

Altrusa International is a global non-profit civic organization focused on community service, leadership development, and literacy. Originally formed as a classified service organization for professional women, the network has welcomed members of all genders, ages, and backgrounds for over a decade.

Club members learned alot about Project REST, formerly Safe Homes R**e Crises Center, and how it serves those affected by domestic and sexual violence. Our meeting featured Krystal Watson, Esq., president and CEO of Project REST.

Members of our club delivered school supplies to CnC Thunder in Cowpens today, in support of schools in District 3. It was amazing to see all the donations already there and add to them.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking to Altrusa International of Spartanburg, SC Inc. This group has a rich history of philanthropy and it was truly a pleasure getting to know about their organization.

Thank you for coming today with a generous gift of school supplies for our students of Spartanburg County School District Three.

Whew! That day we climbed a mountain to help a friend clear out a garage and workshop.
Altrusans banded together to help one if our members tackle the daunting task in preparation of getting her mountain house on the market. This is us enjoying a refreshing lunch break.
