Sandra’s Story: A Ramp to Help Her Stay Safe at Home
After facing health challenges that resulted in the amputation of her foot, Sandra needed to make her home more accessible. Both the front and back entrances of her home are nearly four feet above ground level. While Sandra was able to secure a ramp for her front entrance, she did not have a second accessible exit in case of an emergency.
That’s where Rebuilding Together Spartanburg and our volunteers stepped in.
Last week, eight volunteers from Founders Federal Credit Union spent the day working in the hot sun to begin building a ramp for Sandra’s back entrance. They made significant progress toward creating a safer and more accessible way for Sandra to exit her home.
Then, on Saturday, volunteers from the Interact Club from Spartanburg Day School braved the hot weather to continue the project. Thanks to student leader Ella Cate Cece for organizing the student event.
For Sandra, this ramp is more than just a home repair. It will give her greater accessibility, an additional emergency exit, and the ability to remain safely and independently in her home for years to come.
We are grateful to the volunteers, donors, and supporters who make projects like this possible. Together, we can make a small change that creates a lasting difference.
