We rent costumes out to theatrical productions, parties, and more! Mr.

As a legendary local theater teacher and director, the late James Lewis Casaday's genius for costuming launched a collection that now consists of more than 100,000 pieces, and continues to be used by area schools, theater groups, and individuals. Casaday began the collection in the late 1930's, acquiring things he needed for his high school theater classes and productions at Central and Riley high schools. His first pieces were older items from previous generations, and as a result, the collection contains historic garments dating back to the late 1800's. The collection has continued to grow to this day, and still receives donations of historic and vintage clothing for use or preservation. In addition to theatrical costumes, we invite the public to rent wedding dresses, tuxes, formal wear, or clothing from the collection to fit specific time periods or party themes.

🇺🇸 Back on display at St. Joseph County Public Library! 🇺🇸

For the library's latest Casaday History display, we were asked to put together a collection highlighting military uniforms in honor of Veterans Day.

The display features pieces spanning multiple eras, including:

🎖️ A WWI U.S. Army uniform and helmet
🎖️ A WWII U.S. Army Corps of Engineers uniform, made by Mishawaka’s Ge**er Manufacturing and worn by South Bend resident Steve Anella
🎖️ A WWII WAVE uniform
🎖️ Jackets from the U.S. Army Air Corps (before 1947) and the U.S. Air Force

And then there's this one… 👀

🔎 Can you identify the mystery uniform? Library staff is challenging visitors to see if they can identify it themselves!

Stop by the Local History area on the 3rd floor of St. Joseph County Public Library and see these pieces of history in person.

And as always, we're proud to share a little bit of the Casaday collection with our community. ❤️
