Caregiver Wanted in $61,000 Theft and Elder Exploitation Investigation
Shreveport Police Department detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for:
LATOYA CHALMERS following an investigation into allegations that she stole $61,000 from an elderly couple while working as their caregiver.
The investigation began on August 4, 2026. Detectives determined Chalmers had access to the victims’ debit cards and PINs.
Bank records revealed 61 questioned ATM withdrawals of $1,000 each, totaling $61,000. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed Chalmers conducting seven of those withdrawals.
During an interview, Chalmers admitted making repeated withdrawals using both victims’ debit cards and depositing the money into her personal bank account. She claimed the withdrawals were authorized compensation for caregiving services.
However, one victim denied that agreement and stated Chalmers was permitted to use their money only for groceries and medication. Chalmers acknowledged there was no written agreement supporting her claim.
Investigators also interviewed a longtime family friend whose account did not support Chalmers’s claims regarding compensation or power-of-attorney arrangements.
On October 7, 2026, Judge Chris Victory signed an arrest warrant charging Chalmers with Theft and Exploitation of Elderly Persons or Persons with Infirmities.
Caregivers are entrusted with protecting vulnerable people. Allegations that someone abused that trust to take their savings deserve a thorough investigation and accountability.
Anyone with information regarding Chalmers’s whereabouts is asked to contact Shreveport Police or submit an anonymous tip through Shreveport-Caddo Crime Stoppers.
