Gingerbread House Children’s Advocacy Center Gingerbread House CAC serves child victims of abuse &
child witnesses of violent crimes. Children's Advocacy Centers exist across the country.

Gingerbread House serves Caddo, Bossier, Webster, DeSoto, Bienville, Claiborne, Natchitoches, Red River, and Sabine Parishes and meets the top standards to be accredited by the National Children's Alliance. When someone reports a concern of abuse to the proper authorities, law enforcement and the Department of Child and Family Services, those agencies contact the Gingerbread House for an appointment. The child is brought by a family member or caring adult other than the alleged offender. There a trained professional meets with the child and conducts a Forensic Interview to obtain crucial information. This is done in a child friendly setting with age appropriate, non-leading questions. After the interview, Law Enforcement and the District Attorneys office continues the criminal investigation and possible prosecution. The Department of Child and Family Services continues their component of the investigation regarding the child's safety and determines if the child is able to return home or must be placed in another location. Throughout this process, the Gingerbread House offers Family Advocacy and Counseling to the child. Community education presentations for children and adults are also available upon request. All services are provided free of charge.

Two of our favorite things at the Gingerbread House are a good theme and team-building!

Today, we had a wonderful opportunity to show some love to our Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services’ Regional Supervisors and Managers during their quarterly meeting by providing them lunch from one of our favorite community partners Dillas Quesadillas at one of our favorite local organizations - Ronald McDonald House Arkansas & North Louisiana!

Their theme for the day was “Fall into Teamwork” and they did such a great job representing their favorite teams and organizations by wearing jerseys or their colors!

As part of our “One Team, One Vision” Continuous Quality Improvement plan, Lacie Hadley, Director of Multidisciplinary Team Operations, shared policies and updates with all of the Shreveport Region Foster Care, Family Services, and Child Investigations Supervisors & Managers.

We are so grateful for the many organizations that choose to support the Gingerbread House and the child victims we serve! ❤️

One of our ongoing needs is keeping our Snacks 5th Avenue room stocked with prepackaged snacks for our counseling clients to enjoy after the hard work of a trauma-informed counseling session. These small snacks help us maintain a supportive environment for the children and families we serve.

A huge thank you to Kelly Meyer and Kristen Landrus with ScrubaDubDivas and the Kappa Delta Shreveport-Bossier Alumni Association for collecting and donating snacks to help replenish our shelves! Your generosity means so much to us and the children we serve.

Today, we had the great honor to join hands with many of our Multidisciplinary Team members, as well as community partners, to participate in the 💜4th Annual Wear Purple Walk and Resource Fair💜 hosted by Overton Brooks VA Medical Center to raise awareness about the plaguing issue of Intimate Partner Violence.

Det. Kelly Downey with the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office did a phenomenal job as the guest speaker!

As we continue working together and highlighting the issue of Domestic Violence throughout the month of October, we encourage everyone to END VIOLENCE by refusing to remain silent.
