❤️ Sometimes changing a community starts with simply showing up.

CaRonda and Patrick Drew know that firsthand.
What began with Patrick simply looking out for a couple of neighborhood kids grew into something much bigger — a calling to serve the children, families, and community of the MLK neighborhood through their Friendship House.

Today, the Drew home is a place where kids can find a meal, encouragement, mentorship, a safe place to be themselves, and people who believe in them. And along the way, volunteers and families have found something too: connection, purpose, and hope.

Their story was recently featured by StoryCorps, shining a national light on something we see every day through Community Renewal International: when people choose to love their neighbors and invest in one another, communities can change.
We are grateful for CaRonda and Patrick, for the children they serve, and for every volunteer, neighbor, and partner who continues to say, “I’m here. How can I help?”

💙 It’s more than a field trip. It’s an opportunity.

Of course, the kids had FUN—and they deserved every minute of it! But experiences like these are about so much more than fun. They give children a chance to explore, build friendships, create positive memories, experience new things, and see that their community believes in them.

Tomorrow, October 8th, we invite you to come experience the People of Hope Museum at Catholic Charities of North Louisiana!

This special, interactive experience brings together powerful, faith-filled stories of neighbors helping neighbors, while helping us better understand poverty, service, community, and the difference we can make when we show up for one another.

There’s also a special connection to our own community: Community Renewal Founder Mack McCarter’s book is featured as part of the museum’s Learning Library. Mack is encouraging everyone to come experience this powerful exhibit and be reminded of what can happen when ordinary people choose to love, serve, and stand with their neighbors.

National Night Out is about more than one night of fun. It’s about building the relationships that help neighborhoods become safer, stronger and more connected.

Have you registered your neighborhood gathering yet? September 30 is the last day to sign up!

National Night Out is happening Tuesday, October 6, and Community Renewal International is partnering with the Shreveport Police Department and Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office to help neighborhoods across our city come together.

Great neighborhoods aren't built on surveillance. They're built on relationships. And sometimes, all it takes is a few neighbors, some good food, and a reason to gather.
Whether you're planning a block party, a cookout, a front porch ice cream social, or simply pulling up chairs in the driveway, we encourage you to participate!

When you register with Community Renewal, we can help:

✅ Provide practical tools to help neighbors connect
✅ Support your efforts to bring your neighborhood together

New Experiences, New Opportunities! 🧘🏽‍♀️

This past Saturday, the young ladies from our MLK Friendship House attended Yoga Farm Fest 2026, hosted by The Ross Lynn Charitable Foundation and many others.

Our girls participated in yoga while enjoying an event that introduced them to a variety of wellness practices, including water yoga, massage therapy, acupuncture, deep breathing, and meditation.
Opportunities like these matter. They introduce our young people to activities they may not have experienced before, encourage them to explore new interests, and help them discover different ways to care for their physical and mental well-being.

Beyond the yoga, it was an opportunity to spend time together, meet new people, and connect with others in the community. These shared experiences are an important part of building relationships and helping our young people feel comfortable exploring spaces and opportunities beyond their everyday surroundings.

Thank you to The Ross Lynn Charitable Foundation for welcoming our girls and providing an opportunity to experience something new!

🎓Celebrating Choices, Growth & New Beginnings

We are so proud of the young people in our MLK Friendship House Youth Club who recently completed the C.H.O.I.C.E. Diversion Program and received their certificates! 👏🏾

C.H.O.I.C.E. — Choosing Healthy Options Instead of Criminal Engagement — gives young people the opportunity to learn about the impact of their choices, understand consequences, develop positive decision-making skills, and identify healthy paths forward.

At Community Renewal Friendship Houses, we believe that every young person deserves people who will believe in them, challenge them, guide them, and help them see the possibilities ahead

A huge THANK YOU to the team from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office for investing your time, wisdom, and experience into our young people. Your willingness to show up, teach, listen, and build relationships matters!

💙 Community is built through connection!

A huge THANK YOU to the amazing LSUHS students who stepped away from their busy schedules to spend the afternoon with us at our Highland & Cedar Grove Friendship Houses!

From furniture assembly competitions and games to homework, conversations, and plenty of laughs, the afternoon was filled with fun, connection, and meaningful moments. 🙌🏽

We’re grateful for each student who showed up, engaged, encouraged, and simply took the time to pour into the lives of our young people.

Your presence reminds us that leadership isn’t just about what you accomplish—it’s also about who you take the time to invest in along the way.
