I drive a bus for the public transit company in Pittsburgh. On January 2, 2017, I was driving through Mt. Oliver when I saw a small patch of white in the brown leaves that covered the sidewalk. As I got closer, I realized it was a small cat that was completely soaked after sitting out in the rain. When I opened the door, he screamed at me! (He didn't meow, he SCREAMED!)

I told him if he was still there when I came back, I would take him home and take care of him. When I was done with my route, I parked my bus, got in my car and drove over to the pet store across the street from my garage. I bought a small pet carrier and a couple packs of cat food and then headed back to Mt. Oliver...

We found Honey the evening of this past 4th of July. Her eyes were completely sealed closed and she was running around blind afraid of the fireworks.

We called the SPCA for her. When they came, they immediately told us she would be put to sleep because she was too small. Of course we brought her right home and made a room for her. The doctors a few days later told us she was 0.5 pounds, would lose both of her eyes due to infection, and possibly wouldn’t pull through at all...

Spot, an 11-year-old cat, was dropped off at the Lichfield and Tamworth Branch of Cats Protection in England. The battered senior was extremely skinny, with dirty fur, rotting teeth, and ears so infected they’d swollen twice their normal size. Rescuers could tell this poor senior cat had spent most of his life on the streets.

But this rescue organization — despite being fully run by volunteers — wasn’t about to let this old cat suffer in silence. After sharing Spot’s story around the community, rescuers had raised more than $2,300 to give the cat a full-feline makeover featuring dental work, neutering, vaccinations, a microchip — even plastic surgery.

When the makeover was complete, everybody was amazed by Spot’s sudden transformation from battered stray to beautiful cat.

Zaphod was found in December 2013 with his back left tibia bone broken and sticking through his skin. X-rays revealed he was shot and the bullets were still in his leg, leading to infection.

The doctors estimated he had been living in that condition for about two weeks, based on how far the infection had spread. The leg was amputated in January 2014 to prevent it from spreading further.

After Lisa rescued Zaphod, he developed an urethral obstruction and interstitial cystitis. He spent two nights at the emergency vets office under sedation with a catheter inserted. Luckily, this was caught early on and no renal damage occurred.

One of the doctors treating him was the same one who performed the amputation and remembered what an affectionate cat he is.

His treatment was expensive, but she doesn't regret getting him. He's the sweetest, loving boy and most grateful kitty ever, who's gone through more than any animal should.

Zaphod and her other kitties, Surprise and Brie, are finally getting accustomed to each other. He seems to have too much energy for them! He meows when he's separated from them now, although he's fine hogging my daughter at bedtime.

We already had three rescue kitties at home from a local rescue that was awesome, but they had recently been forced to disband. We'd always hoped to get another kitty or two through them, but had not been able to before they had to close.

The former director of the rescue was driving home one day in a rural area when a little ball of fluff ran across the road in front of her. After stopping, a tiny little girl came running to her. That little kitty had no idea she'd just hit the lottery!

After lots of food, love, and good medical care, she was posted for adoption! My husband and I were having dinner when we first saw her picture. All he said was "She's a cutie!", and that was it. We were discussing names before dinner was over and had contacted our new baby's rescuing angel to let her know she was wanted!

We brought her home for the first time just after Thanksgiving, and our three previous rescues became instant big sisters.

She's still a tiny little thing and always will be, but she's healthy, and the joy she has in playing, loving and just being warm, safe, loved, and content rolls off of her like a tidal wave! The odds of her finding her way across that lonely rural road in front of her wonderful rescuer's car were astronomical. But boy did we all hit the jackpot when she did!

Our family is now complete, and we can't wait to spend as many years as possible spoiling her and her big sisters rotten!

Bovver's mother Molly was merely a kitten when my cousin rescued her from the scrap yard and took her in. It didn't take long before she realized Molly was pregnant! She amazingly birthed five gorgeous kittens.

Unfortunately, the property contained a number of dogs and other dangers, and Molly (a little feral) seemed intent on taking her kittens outside. With huge concern that the worst was to happen to her kittens, my cousin was at a loss of what to do. They couldn't afford vaccinations, let alone enough food for now six felines.

That's when she got a hold of me and I contacted the center I adopted Lola from. I was a bit of a "middle man" between the two, constantly taking photos, spending time with the kittens and reporting back to the amazing rescue crew. I managed to convince them to take in Molly and her five beautiful babies.

However, one of the kittens stole my heart completely. The idea of him waiting for his forever home broke me. I decided to take him home (unbeknown to my partner at the time).

Bovver has become a huge part of our family, a great companion to us and our other cat. And I am so pleased to say that his three sisters, brother and mother have found their forever homes, all desexed, microchipped and vaccinated.

We now have two rescue cats, and though the road has been paved with hurdles (behavioural and medical), we wouldn't have it any other way.

Twenty-one years ago, when I was 15-years-old, I picked up the local newspaper when I got in from school and I saw an advert that read "Three ugly kittens in need of good homes." Can anyone ignore that? Certainly not!

So the phone was picked up, number dialed, and me pretending to be my mother. I gave my mother's name, date of birth, etc, etc, and bagged a time and day to go see these ugly kittens...

We got there, and oh my stars! All three of them were nothing but big eyes and bigger ears, and they looked like little black and white gremlins. Their names were Groucho, Gonzo, and Gizmo.

Four-weeks-old they were and had been found in a farmer's field, half tied in a bin bag that was filling up with freezing cold rain. If they had been there even a few hours more, they would not have survived.

Anyhow, Gonzo was the one who came up to us, all meowing and purry, and rubbing her little head against my hand. The lady at the Cats Protection League told us the other two would stand a better chance of finding homes if we took the "bully", as she said, and so we took Groucho home.

Groucho was renamed Smudge, and by the time I got in from school the same day she was brought home, Mudgey ruled the roost! We've had her for 21 years now, and she's still going strong. She caught more mice in her 18th year than she has in all her others years put together!

She truly is the epitome of love, and there are no words that can describe what she means to us.

It was a very dark, hot July night. My son and I had been away most of the day visiting family. Suddenly, a kitten ran out in front of the car. I was certain I ran her over!

I pulled over to move the body out of the road, but there was no kitten! Then we heard the kitten mewing in the grass. She stepped out to see us, crying her heart out.

I picked her up and held her close to my chest. She was purring and crying!

"There there little one. You are safe now," I whispered to her.

I put her in my garage once we were home and gave her food and water. Poor little darling was so hungry and thirsty. I could not take her into the house, as I had a dog. My plan was to take her with me to work and try to find her a home. If not, I'd have to work it out with my dog.

Everyone was so loving to her, but they already had pets. So, while I worked, my coworkers got a box and put a blanket inside it for her. Then a coworker came to me and told me the maintenance guy wanted her. She assured me the kitten would have a good home.

As time went on, I'd ask him how she was doing. He would show me pictures and tell me she was the sweetest cat! He named her Moxie. I am so very grateful I could help this little baby!
