Introducing MLA Board Member & Delegate Brendan Adams! 🦞
Out of Chatham, Massachusetts, Brendan Adams operates the F/V Luna Sea II and brings a deep-rooted family connection and years of firsthand experience to the Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association (MLA).
Lobstering runs in Brendan’s family. With a father, grandfather, and uncles who worked in the industry, he grew up surrounded by a tradition that stretches back generations. His father had been trap fishing for lobsters since the early 1980s, but Brendan’s own path into the industry began almost by accident in 2005, when he started driving a boat for Jean Frottier while he lobster-dived. After working alongside others for several years, Brendan began fishing on his own in 2009.
So, what does he love most about lobstering? The independence. Being his own boss and having the freedom to head offshore, leave the distractions of shore behind, and focus on the work and the water.
When asked about his favorite lobstering memory, Brendan found it difficult to choose just one. After all, the great experiences throughout his career far outweigh the difficult ones. But one unforgettable morning stands out.
While diving for lobsters, Brendan encountered an incredible sight: lobsters everywhere he looked, with approximately 20 feet of visibility beneath the surface. For five consecutive tanks of air, he collected lobsters as quickly as he could, filling bags and bringing his catch to the surface. Then, as the tide changed, the lobsters disappeared almost as quickly as they had arrived. One moment, they were everywhere; the next, it was as if they had never been there.
It was a remarkable glimpse into the underwater world that few people ever get to experience firsthand, and a memory that has stayed with him throughout his years on the water.
From a family legacy in lobstering to building his own path in the industry, Brendan’s story is a reminder that every fisherman has a unique journey, a deep connection to the sea, and memories that make this way of life so special.
