An Irish Celtic Experience
Sunday September 6 from 1–3 PM

Please join us on Sunday, September 6th, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum for a very special event as we welcome poet and storyteller Sean Ó Coistealbha and Celtic stone lifter David Keohan, aka “Indiana Stones,” as part of their U.S. Summer Tour!

Sean will share captivating stories, poems and an Irish Moss remedy while David demonstrates the ancient Irish tradition of stone lifting

Come experience a fascinating piece of Irish tradition, hear some wonderful stories, and maybe even test your strength!

Attendees of all ages are welcome to try their hand at lifting a Cloch Ban, an official 254-pound lifting stone from Ireland!

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make our final event in the **Waves of History** summer series at the Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum such a wonderful success!

What a day we had! A little rain certainly didn’t keep our community from coming out, connecting with one another, and learning more about Scituate’s local fishing industry—past, present, and future.

We are so grateful to all of our speakers, participants, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this series possible. Most of all, thank you to our amazing community for continuing to support the museum and our efforts to preserve and share Scituate’s rich maritime history.

What a wonderful way to wrap up the summer series!

Happening Today. 1pm to 4pm.

It may not be a beach day, but it’s the perfect day to visit the Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum for our final Waves of History special event: “Scituate’s Fishing Industry: Past, Present, and Future!”

Join us today as we celebrate Scituate’s rich fishing heritage with local fishermen, lobstermen and divers sharing their experiences and stories.

The event will also feature a continuous showing of the documentary Fish & Men, along with demonstrations and activities for the kids.

And come hungry! Miss Emily’s food truck will be on hand all day, offering a menu of delicious local caught fish and lobster to enjoy while you explore the museum and take part in this special event.

Come spend the day at the museum, learn about Scituate’s fishing industry, and celebrate the people and traditions that continue to shape our coastal community!

HAPPENING TOMORROW SUNDAY, AUGUST 23RD

Waves of History: Scituate’s Fishing Industry — Past, Present, and Future

Our fourth and final event in the Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum Summer Specials is happening on Sunday, August 23rd, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Meet local fishermen and lobstermen as they share personal accounts and insights into Scituate’s rich fishing heritage, the challenges facing today’s fishing industry, and what the future may hold for those who make their living from the sea. Local divers will also be on hand with a display of a number of the artifacts recovered from local dives and some of the equipment that they use.

Come hear their stories, learn about life on the water, view the movie "Fish and Men" and gain a deeper appreciation for the people and traditions that have helped shape Scituate’s maritime history.

The Miss Emily Food Truck will be on site all day offering a menu featuring fresh local caught fish, lobster rolls and more.
Don’t miss this special afternoon celebrating Scituate’s fishing community—past, present, and future!

Today's Happenings.

Historic sites open ftom 1 to 4. Scituate Lighthouse, Lawson Tower and the Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum.

Lawson Tower Bell Concert at 4pm. Grab a root beer float from the First Parish UU Church (1-5) and enjoy the concert.

Salt, a 43 foot, life-size humpback whale will be at the museum. Our friends from NOAA's Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary will be on hand with information on marine life off our coast and much more. Lorri from Alleyoop Party will be twisting ocean themed balloon creations for everyone.

If you did not have a chance to view the tea from the Boston Tea Party at yesterday's event, today may be your last chance before it goes back to the archives.

Explore different sites at our Open House series! Come be part of our community’s story. Our historic sites are open to all — bring your curiosity and enjoy a shared journey through the past. Take your time, look around, and enjoy the atmosphere of our historic sites. Each one has a story worth discovering. A variety of sites will be open on each date in the series.

On Saturday, August 8th, the Open House features:
