Things of My Very Own

Things of My Very Own A 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization that helps children in crisis. Things of My Very Own, Inc. For this reason, monetary donations go further than donating items.

provides crisis intervention services to children impacted by extensive abuse and/or neglect. Services are also available to children who are at-risk of a Child Protective Services intervention. Our goal is to keep children together with their non-abusive family members, and out of the foster care system. We are a referral-based program and are currently accepting donations of the following:

 Cl

othing (sizes preemie-Adult 8XL that would be appropriate for a child or teen to wear to school)

 Bedding (all sizes)

 Pajamas (new and gently used)

 Postage Stamps

Monetary Donations- We have the ability to purchase greatly needed items at a fraction of retail prices. Monetary donations may be made online at http://thingsofmyveryown.org/donate-today/

The Crisis Intervention Center is located at 249 Green Street in Schenectady, NY. The donation drop-off door is located in the far left-hand corner of the building. Donations are accepted Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9am-noon. Volunteer opportunities are available on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday's from 9am-11am and 10:30am-1pm. Volunteer shifts must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. To schedule a volunteer shift, you may contact us at (518) 630-5143 or by email at [email protected].

* The stories that we share about our clients are based on real events. Often times the details of the story (e.g. age, gender, county of residence, clothing they wear, the relative they are staying with, time frame in which the case occurred, etc.) are changed to prevent a breach of confidentiality and or embarrassment. We at Things of My Very Own, Inc. value the sensitivity of the circumstances that our clients face, however, we share stories with the public to provide them with an idea of the types of situations that children throughout New York State are often faced with.

All programs at the Crisis Intervention Center are operating as scheduled today, however those wishing to reschedule due to air quality concerns may do so by calling the office. When we shared that our shelves were empty, you answered with incredible generosity.

Because of your support, we were able to provide food to children and families at the exact moment they needed it most. In fact, donations began arriving just as we were preparing to tell several of our guests that we had nothing left to give.

Summer is one of the hardest times of the year for children facing food insecurity. While our shelves are no longer completely empty, the need never stops.

From all of us at Things of My Very Own, thank you for standing beside children in crisis and reminding them that their community cares. ❤️

If you'd like to help us be ready for the next child in crisis who walks through our doors, you can make a donation here: https://bit.ly/3Tp931H

🚨URGENT NEED: Our Food Shelves are Empty.

Every day, children arrive at Things of My Very Own after experiencing abuse, neglect, domestic violence, or other traumatic circumstances. Most come with little more than the clothes they're wearing, and very often they haven't eaten.

It's Summer and our food shelves are unfortunately empty, but children still need us. Every donation—large or small—helps ensure that when a child arrives in crisis, we can immediately provide comfort, dignity, and hope.

To the awesome families we serve,

It is going to be 92 degrees tomorrow. If you do not have well-functioning air conditioning, we encourage you to pack up the children and spend the morning hanging out with us. We have comfortable sofas, movies, air conditioning, snacks, games, and a ball pit. Our team will be on-site from 8 am until noon. After that, we will be heading into the community to check on several families we serve. Your families are an extension of ours, and you are always welcome at the organization.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow at 249 Green Street in Schenectady.
