Hagar, cast out and desperate in the wilderness with her dying child, discovers that God hears the cry of the forgotten, opening her eyes to a well of water and promising a future for her son. Paul declares that through baptism we have died to the old life of fear and sin and been raised to walk in newness of life, united with Christ in both death and resurrection. Jesus sends his disciples out without illusion – the way will be costly and divisive! – yet grounds their courage in the astonishing truth that not one sparrow falls without the Father’s notice, and the hairs of our heads are all counted. We are held by a God of perpetual loving-kindness, and that is enough to proclaim from the housetops.

It's time for Logue on the Road!

This Sunday Bishop Logue will make his visitation to All Saints' in Thomasville. Named after the day the parish formed, All Saints' Day in 1980, members originally met in at the Chapel at the Thomas County Community College (now Thomas University). In 1981 they were able to acquire an abandoned Catholic church to call home and have it moved it to it's location on Hansell Street.

A Collect for Juneteenth

Holy and righteous God, you created us in your image. Grant us grace to contend fearlessly against evil and to make no peace with oppression. Help us, like those of generations before us, resist the evil of slavery and human bo***ge in any form and any manner of oppression. Help us to use our freedoms to bring justice among people and nations everywhere, to the glory of your Holy name through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Collect by the Vivian Traylor Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians

Abraham runs to welcome three strangers with lavish hospitality, and discovers he is entertaining the Lord, who fulfills the impossible promise that brings laughter to Sarah’s lips, because nothing is too wonderful for God. Paul traces the arc of that same grace; justified by faith, we stand in hope that does not disappoint, because God’s love was poured out for us while we were still sinners. Jesus looks out at the harassed and helpless crowds with compassion, and sends his disciples out to do what he has done — proclaiming, healing, and giving freely what they have freely received. We are that church, called still to proclaim truth with boldness and minister justice with compassion, trusting the Spirit to speak through us.

Abram simply got up and went, leaving everything familiar behind on the strength of God’s promise alone. That leap of faith echoes through Paul’s letter as the very model of how grace works: not through law, but through trust in a God who gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that do not exist. Jesus embodies that same life-giving grace as he calls a despised tax collector, dines with sinners, heals a woman deemed untouchable, and raises a little girl from death; he came not for the righteous but for those who know their need of a physician. All good proceeds from this God who inspires, guides, and makes good on every promise.

It's time for Logue on the Road!

This Sunday Bishop Logue will make his visitation to St. Augustine of Canterbury in Augusta. St. Augustine's was formed as a mission in 1960, and by 1961 had a vision of their future building. By 1970, the construction of a church building and parish hall had been constructed, including a chapel dedicated to St. Brigid of Kildare.
