November is National Diabetes Month, a time when communities come together to bring attention to diabetes. 2020’s focus is on taking care of youth who have this diagnosis. It is one of the most common chronic conditions in school-age youth in the U.S. as it affects approximately 193,000 youth under 20 years old. Alzheimer’s Disease may be one of the harshest diseases because a sufferer outwardly “disappears” until the person they were — no longer exists. National Alzheimer’s Disease Month reminds us that over 5 million Americans suffer. Alzheimer’s Disease is a form of dementia, and it impacts one’s memory, thinking, and behavior. It is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. as well as the most common form of dementia in 60-80% of all diagnosed cases. Today is National Young Readers Day which is celebrated on the second Tuesday of November. Reading opens up a lifetime of knowledge, information, success, and happiness. Grade schools around the country take advantage of this day, to promote the importance of reading so let us use today to help and encourage our youth to learn to read, and open the door to knowledge, information, success, and happiness.

Happy Young Readers Day to readers young, and not so young.

Origin of Young Readers Day:
Young Readers Day was co-founded in 1989 by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

While this is referred to by some as a "National" day, we did not find any presidential proclamation or act of congress.

Warning signs of domestic violence are not always easy to see because it is not always physical- black eyes and bruises.

Emotional Signs of Domestic Abuse
Domestic abuse, of course, can take a serious emotional toll, creating a sense of helplessness, hopelessness, or despair. Domestic abuse can cause people to believe that they will never escape the control of the abuser. They may also exhibit a constant state of alertness to the point they never can completely relax.

How Abuse Causes Behavior Changes
If you notice that someone who was once outgoing and cheerful has gradually become quiet and withdrawn, it could be a sign of domestic abuse.

Showing Signs of Fear
People who are being abused may seem anxious or nervous when they are away from the abuser, or they may seem overly anxious to please their partner. If they have children, the children may seem timid, frightened, or extremely well-behaved when the partner is around.-(Information from www.verywellmind.com/signs-someone-is-being-abused-66535)
If you are experiencing any of these situations, we can help you. Call us at 912-777-6255 or call the National Hotline.

COVID-19 has changed the way we all communicate and stay connected with one another. Now more than ever, individuals of all ages are relying on technology, devices, and screens to stay connected and live our lives. That’s why this April — during Sexual Assault Awareness Month — is a critical opportunity to take a look at the role consent plays in our ever-evolving digital lives.
