has always been both a declaration and a demand.

A declaration that LGBTQIA+ lives are worthy of joy, dignity, and respect. A demand that the systems around us rise to meet that truth.

This month, we celebrate the resilience of a community that has never stopped pushing for a more just world, and we recommit to that push alongside you.

Equity isn’t a destination for some. It’s a future we must build together, for everyone.

The Santa Rosa–Sonoma County NAACP stands in support of A&M BBQ and calls for a fair, transparent, and equitable process as the City of Sebastopol considers the future of this local business.

Small businesses are the backbone of our communities. They create jobs, support local economies, and contribute to the unique character of our cities. When challenges arise, business owners deserve clear communication, consistent enforcement, and the opportunity to work collaboratively toward solutions.

As one of only two Black-owned businesses in Sebastopol, A&M BBQ represents not only entrepreneurship and economic investment, but also the importance of creating communities where diverse businesses can thrive and feel welcomed.

We encourage community members to attend the City Council meeting, submit written comments, and speak during public comment in support of a fact-based, solution-oriented approach. We are not asking for special treatment—we are asking for fair treatment, due process, and a reasonable path forward.

The way we treat small businesses today shapes the kind of community we build tomorrow.

Join us in supporting fairness, economic opportunity, and a collaborative resolution for A&M BBQ.

Memorial Day is a chance for us to pause as a community and recognize the extraordinary individuals whose bravery and commitment shaped the freedoms and rights we treasure today.

Honoring them is about choosing, every day, to stand up for the same values they believed were worth the ultimate sacrifice: fairness, justice, and dignity for all.

Join us for a weeklong interactive Social Justice Institute. Participants will explore the powerful legacy of youth-led civil rights movements and their connection to today’s social justice efforts, gaining a deeper understanding of how young leaders have shaped social change across generations.

This immersive week-long program is designed to empower, inspire, and uplift participants by helping them recognize the value of their individual stories, voices, and lived experiences as tools for advocacy, leadership, and meaningful community and campus engagement. Through interactive discussions, collaborative activities, and reflective learning, participants will build connections, strengthen leadership skills, and develop strategies for creating positive impact within their schools and communities.

Daily lunch and snacks will be provided throughout the program.

The NAACP Santa Rosa-Sonoma County Branch is incredibly proud of the Black High School Graduates of the Class of 2026!

This achievement did not come easy. Each graduate persevered through challenges, adversity, and obstacles on their respective campuses with resilience, determination, and excellence.

Our time together on Sunday, May 17th, was dedicated to celebrating, honoring, and uplifting the brilliance, joy, and limitless potential that each student carries into their next chapter. We are inspired by the future leaders emerging from this class and look forward to witnessing their continued impact as future international relations experts, lawyers, nurses, engineers, cosmetologists, philosophers, historians, sociologists, entrepreneurs, educators, and members of the United States Air Force.

So many dreams. So much promise. So much greatness ahead.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 — your community celebrates you and stands proudly beside you as you continue your journey forward.

If you missed the event and still want a Kente stole, email [email protected] by June 1st.
