What can a pancake breakfast accomplish?

More than you might think.

In Fort Bragg, our THRIVE team brought residents together for a simple pancake breakfast. Nothing elaborate. Just good food, conversation, and an opportunity to connect.

But in supportive housing, these moments matter.

When neighbors begin to know each other, relationships develop. When relationships develop, trust grows. And when people feel connected to their community, they are more likely to look out for one another.

We often measure supportive services through housing stability, crisis interventions, and resources provided. Those outcomes are important, but so is the work that happens around a breakfast table.

Because sometimes the most meaningful intervention doesn’t look like an intervention at all.

Sometimes it looks like pancakes.

Community is the Intervention.

October is THRIVE’s birthday month!

Two years ago, THRIVE began providing supportive services with a simple belief: housing matters, services matter, but community and human connection can change everything.

Since then, we have had the privilege of becoming part of some truly incredible communities, including Sage Commons, where this journey began.

What started with just two communities has grown into 12 communities and more than 1,500 residents. But the numbers are only a small part of the story.

The real story is the people.

It is the residents who trusted us. The property management teams who welcomed us as partners. The community organizations that answered our calls. And the THRIVE team that shows up every day ready to listen, problem solve, celebrate wins, navigate hard moments, and remind people that they do not have to do life alone.

In two years, we have learned a lot, grown a lot, and probably made a few mistakes along the way too. But one thing has only become clearer:

Community is the Intervention.

Oh, the cookies you’ll make when you gather around,
with frosting and sprinkles spread all around.

Some had big eyes.
Some had bright goo.
Some looked a little spooky…
and some just said “BOO!”

Friday Fun got a little messy this week when our RSC Selena brought everyone together for cookie decorating!

Kids, adults, frosting, sprinkles and plenty of taste testing made for a pretty sweet afternoon.

Because the best kind of community might just be the kind you can eat.

A little creativity and a lot of smiles at The Plateau!

Our RSC Shalanne King hosted a card making class where residents got to create, visit with their neighbors and make something special for someone they care about.

Sometimes the best moments are the simple ones. Sitting around a table, sharing supplies, laughing and enjoying each other’s company.

This is what community looks like. ❤️

THE RESULTS ARE IN!

Our Chili Cook Off champions have officially been crowned!

🥇 Ronnie took FIRST PLACE
🥈 Charles came in SECOND
🥉 Steve grabbed THIRD

There was chili. There were trophies. There were official sashes. And yes, there are now some serious bragging rights around the community.

Thank you to everyone who cooked, tasted, laughed and joined in the fun. Days like this are what make a building feel like a community.

September is Su***de Prevention Month.

For the one who is tired
but keeps showing up.

For the one who smiles
so no one asks what is wrong.

For the one who feels alone
even in a crowded room.

For the one who is carrying
more than anyone knows.

Please stay.

There are still conversations to be had,
meals to be shared,
laughs you haven’t laughed,
people you haven’t met,
and moments you cannot see from where you are standing today.

And when hope feels too heavy to carry by yourself,

BINGO. Jeopardy. Poker. And probably a little friendly trash talk along the way.

Sometimes the best community building happens when everyone is just having FUN.

A table, a game and a few laughs can turn strangers into familiar faces and neighbors into friends.

We love seeing our THRIVE communities spending time together, laughing together and, of course, competing for bragging rights.

Because life is better when you know your neighbors.

Friday night plans: popcorn, a movie and a whole lot of laughing.

Our Resident Services Coordinator Selena hosted a movie night for the kids in her community, and judging by these pictures, they had a pretty great time.

It may seem like a small thing to give kids something fun to do on a Friday night, but we know these moments matter.

A safe place to hang out. Friends right down the hall. Adults who know their names. Something to look forward to. A place where they feel like they belong.

These are the little moments that turn an apartment complex into a community.

And every kid deserves to grow up with one.

Community is the Intervention.

A huge shout out to Gilroy Self Storage! We are so grateful for the support we have received from them, giving us the opportunity to store furniture and donations that we receive while we get them to the families we support in need! Thank you for all that you do. You guys are wonderful to work with and make such a huge impact in the community.

Okay, this might be one of our favorite things we have ever done.

This year THRIVE launched our very first Fairy Godparent Program and 62 kids received a new outfit, new shoes, socks, and a backpack FULL of school supplies for the new school year.

Then the pictures started coming in and our hearts just about exploded.

Look at these faces.

There is nothing better than seeing a kid genuinely excited about their new backpack or trying on their new shoes the second they get them.

To our 62 kiddos, we hope you walk into school feeling confident, excited, and so incredibly loved.

And to everyone who helped us make this happen, thank you for being part of their village.

Fairy Godparent Program year one is officially in the books, and something tells us this is only the beginning.
