The BULA Cluub of california celebrated the day that Fiji won its independence from the British on October 10. This year, the club marked the day with a donation of hygiene supplies to SAVS.

The BULA Club unites the Fijian community through cultural gatherings, dances, and fundraising events. Their next event is Denims & Diamonds – Rodeo Vibes, Nov. 7, at the Tradewinds Bar in Cotati. Tickets are $25 for dancing, door prizes and rustic treats. Support them so they can continue their work helping homeless people.

With 18 days until midterms it seems appropriate to spread information about the prop that will affect homelessness. This Article is specifically about prop 1 which would provide money to buy more housing that would allow the state to sell $11.25 billion in general obligation bonds to fund various types of housing, including homes for veterans, homeless Californians, renters, homeowners, farm workers, students and tribes. The Articles goes into specific plans on where the money would go to buy what types of building. Having more buildings in the effort against homelessness is needed, not just in terms of housing but the additional services that would be needed to help get homeless people on the right track of affording their own place. We will be working together with any type of housing to keep our community out of the cold, wet winter we are expecting.

This is an interesting interview of the point in time count, as it has positive aspects, but there are definitely things that aren’t reported by it. It is a small snapshot of how many people are affected by homelessness in an area. Though as this interview will tell you it doesn’t count everyone. Thank you KALW for providing good information to our community.

This is an interesting development from Denver as they might have found a good way of helping homelessness. It is a video so if you have 7 minutes, we recommend watching it as it might give insight into what you want to happen to your community. From how the numbers are represented it has shown great success as they had a 64% decrease in unsheltered homelessness, outpacing the national rate. It seems like the focus was purchasing large amounts of housing and then quickly getting people who are in encampments into this housing and providing them with resources to get onto their feet. Mayor Mike Johnston says that as they have been getting better at Case Management more people are being able to get out of the cycle of homelessness. There does seem to be some critics from locals, which unfortunately are not a part of the video so we encourage you to look up more for yourself, but the local nonprofits seems to be suggesting that the numbers don’t tell the whole story as the extra policing and sweeps might be more aggressive than the mayor lets on. We do hope we can at least take some examples of what Denver is doing and consider how it might work here.

Greeting we have delivered 60 meals to our unsheltered friends. For today we have made mashed potatoes, ham, gravy, veggies, garlic bread, eggs and cookies. As the weather changes from hot to cold… then hot again, the people who suffer most are those without shelter to protect them. They end up using up a lot of energy from just walking around as they risk heat stroke. So, helping give them the energy they need for the day is a job that we are glad to do, as we also help direct them on ways of getting shelter.

This is how homelessness should be handled as there are many different people who are homelessness. Generalizing it as a single group loses the fact that many people have different reasons for how they become homeless, and how their situation makes it easier or harder to get out of that situation. For veterans there are programs set up to help them due to how they helped our country, and the trauma or injuries that they procured makes it hard for them to find work. We need to focus on how our help affects different parts of the homeless community, whether it helps one group more than the other, and being able to strengthen our strategy to help more people. In this article Minnesota has successfully focused and helped the homeless veterans of their state. Hopefully we can take the their example and make similar strides in Sonoma County.

According to a statement from the governor's office, over 5,000 vets have avoided experiencing homelessness since 2019 under the Walz-Flanagan administration.

It is important to have a perspective on these difficult problems that happen in this world, as there is the real chance we might experience it, as disasters, job loss, and bankruptcy can lead to either quick or slow inevitable homelessness.

This is a conservative group formed by the republican Carl DeMaio a Californian member of the State Assembly District 75, San Diego. They share a lot of the issue of the Cicero institute they both insist on getting rid of housing first instead of adapting it. They also claim to have a plan and outright state the enforcement of laws against homeless people to force them into treatment as being the first step. They claim they will be committed to helping people with mental and substance abuse problems but only if they comply with being clean, sane, and sober. Which I mean demanding that people with mental health issues be sane to get housing is terrible as they are just going to be put onto the street. This organization also will be enforcing a work detail that homeless people will be forced to do if they want any assistance. We need to work together and while they claim to be putting "people first" they will be putting a lot on the streets and restricting help to only those who will work for them.

California’s politicians are promoting failed “Housing First” policies that have wasted billions in taxpayer funds while making homelessness worse in our state. We have a better plan called “People First” that will save lives and clean up our streets!
