Chers amis écologistes,

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que je vous annonce le décès de notre ami et collègue de longue date, Dr Dramane Touré Nable.

Le Dr Touré fut un pionnier du mouvement écologiste en Côte d’Ivoire, l’un des fondateurs de ce qui allait devenir le Rassemblement des Verts Ivoiriens (RAVI), ainsi que l’un des premiers candidats écologistes à l’élection présidentielle de son pays. Il a joué un rôle important dans le renforcement de l’écologie politique en Afrique et dans le développement des liens avec le mouvement mondial des Global Greens.

En tant que Président de Earth Rights Institute Africa, le Dr Touré a consacré sa vie à la promotion de la durabilité environnementale, de l’action climatique, du développement communautaire, de la consolidation de la paix et de la justice sociale. Il était profondément engagé dans l’autonomisation des communautés locales et dans la recherche de solutions concrètes aux défis auxquels sont confrontés les populations et la planète.

J’ai eu le privilège de travailler étroitement avec Dramane pendant des décennies au sein d’Earth Rights Institute et de contribuer avec lui à placer la question du changement climatique au premier plan en Afrique de l’Ouest. Ensemble, nous avons développé des partenariats et des programmes portant sur le changement climatique, la restauration écologique, le développement durable, la lutte contre la pauvreté, l’éducation environnementale et le renforcement de la résilience des communautés. Sa sagesse, son leadership, sa bienveillance et son engagement indéfectible pour un monde meilleur ont marqué d’innombrables vies.

Dramane laisse derrière lui un héritage durable au sein du mouvement écologiste, dans les communautés qu’il a servies et auprès des nombreuses personnes qu’il a inspirées et accompagnées tout au long de sa vie.

Je suis particulièrement reconnaissante d’avoir eu l’occasion d’être à ses côtés à Abidjan il y a quelques mois. Je vous invite à vous joindre à moi pour honorer sa mémoire et adresser nos plus sincères condoléances à sa famille, à ses amis et à ses collègues.

Qu’il repose en paix et que sa vision continue de guider notre action.

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of our longtime friend and colleague, Dr. Dramane Touré Nable.

Dr. Touré was a pioneer of the Green movement in Côte d'Ivoire, a founder of what became the Rassemblement des Verts Ivoiriens (RAVI), and one of the country's first Green Party presidential candidates. He played a significant role in strengthening Green politics in Africa and building connections with the broader Global Greens movement.

As President of Earth Rights Institute, Inc Africa, Dr. Touré dedicated his life to advancing environmental sustainability, climate action, community development, peace-building, and social justice. He was deeply committed to empowering local communities and creating practical solutions to the challenges facing people and the planet.

I had the privilege of working closely with Dramane for decades through Earth Rights Institute, Inc, bringing Climate Change to the forefront for West Africa. Together, we developed partnerships and programs addressing climate change, ecological restoration, sustainable development, poverty alleviation, environmental education, and community resilience. His wisdom, leadership, kindness, and unwavering commitment to a better world touched countless lives.

Dramane leaves behind a lasting legacy in the Green movement, in the communities he served, and in the many people he inspired and mentored throughout his life.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have been with him a few months ago in Abidjan. Please join me in honoring his memory and extending heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. May he rest in peace, and may his vision continue to guide our work.
