As I've settled back into life at home and begun planning for next year's health camps, fundraising efforts, and future projects with Embrace Nepal Foundation, I've found myself reflecting on one question:

Why do we keep going back?

The answer isn't found in the number of patients seen or medications distributed.

It's found in the relationships.

But those relationships don't happen by accident.

Most people see photos of patients receiving care. What they don't see are the months of planning that happen beforehand—the medications that must be sourced, the supplies that must be organized, the dental kits assembled one by one, and the countless logistics that must come together before the first patient ever walks through the door.

This spring, our team returned to communities in Sindhuli and Lahan where we've worked before. We saw familiar faces, reconnected with community leaders, and continued conversations that began years ago.

Each visit teaches us something new.

We learn where the gaps in care still exist.

We identify new opportunities to improve access to healthcare and education.

And we gain a deeper understanding of what these communities need—not what we think they need.

Meaningful change doesn't happen in a single health camp.

It happens through consistency.

Through listening.

Through partnership.

Through showing up again and again.

As we begin planning for future camps, I am grateful for the healthcare providers, volunteers, donors, community leaders, and local partners who make this work possible.

The work continues.

And so does our commitment to the communities we serve.

This is Shree Janta Secondary School in Lahan—where we held both our health camps and children’s dental camp. 🇳🇵💙

But more than that… this is where relationships are being built.

The children here remember us.
They look forward to our return.

One of the teachers, Mahesh, shared something that stayed with me—that the children feel so happy inside when I greet them with a simple “Namaste” and “hello.”

It’s such a small gesture… but it creates connection, trust, and belonging.

As an outsider—a white American woman—being welcomed into this community with such warmth is something I don’t take lightly.

These children welcomed me with curiosity, kindness, and open hearts. And in return, we are committed to continuing to show up for them—not just once, but consistently.

Because care isn’t just about treatment.
It’s about being present… building trust… and creating a future where these children feel seen, supported, and valued.

We will continue this work in this school and this community—so these children have access to care, education, and a healthier future.

Lahan-10 Health & Children’s Dental Camp — Day 2 🇳🇵
April 6, 2026 | Shree Janta Secondary School, Guddigaun, Siraha

Day 2 in Lahan focused on something just as important as treatment—prevention through education.

Today we hosted a children’s dental camp, where we provided a presentation and live demonstrations on the importance of oral health and how it directly impacts overall health.

For many of these children, access to dental care simply does not exist. Dental supplies are often not a priority—not because families don’t care—but because they are forced to choose between putting food on the table or purchasing items like toothbrushes and toothpaste.

We taught the children:
• How to properly brush their teeth
• Why oral hygiene matters
• How untreated dental issues can lead to pain, infection, and difficulty eating—ultimately contributing to malnutrition

We also explained that oral health is directly connected to overall health. When left untreated, dental disease can lead to serious complications, including infection and inflammation that can impact vital organs such as the heart, lungs, and brain.

Each child received a 6-month supply of dental care, including:
• Toothbrush
• Toothpaste
• Dental floss
• Educational pamphlet (in Nepali and English)

We are already preparing the next 6-month supply, which will be delivered to the school in October—ensuring continuity of care and education.

We also conducted a half-day health camp, which I will share more about tomorrow.

Our goal for future camps in Lahan is to expand services by bringing:

• Dentists
• A female physician
• VIA-trained nurses to screen for cervical cancer

Because prevention, early detection, and access to care should not depend on geography or income.

Lahan-10 Health Camp — Day 1 🇳🇵
April 5, 2026 | Shree Janta Secondary School, Guddigaun, Siraha

This is where it begins.

Our team arrived in Lahan-10 and began our first day of health camps at Shree Janta Secondary School—bringing care directly to a community with limited access to healthcare.

On Day 1, we consulted and treated 225 patients, many from the surrounding villages.

We saw a wide range of conditions, including low blood pressure, musculoskeletal pain, fungal infections, gastritis, and common illnesses. Many patients also have a history of diabetes and hypertension, but due to cost, access, and limited follow-up, these conditions are often not well managed.

Patients we had seen during previous visits to this community returned—an important first step. The awareness and trust are not fully there yet, but with continued health camps, we believe they will come.

This camp also highlighted a critical gap—women’s healthcare.

Without a female provider present, many women were not comfortable fully sharing their concerns. This means some conditions may go undiagnosed or untreated, including serious but preventable illnesses such as cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer remains one of the leading cancers affecting women in Nepal, yet early detection is possible through simple screening methods like VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid).

With the addition of a female OB/GYN and a trained VIA nurse, we could provide life-saving screening, early treatment, and referral for higher-level care.

Care in these communities must be delivered with both clinical skill and cultural understanding—ensuring dignity, respect, and trust remain at the center of everything we do.

These communities—many from Dalit/Musahar populations—face significant barriers to care, including poverty, limited education, and lack of access to healthcare facilities.

And yet—they show up.
They wait.
They trust us enough to come.

That is where it starts.

This camp was also covered by national news reporter Jibachh Udasi (Gorkhapatra Online), helping bring awareness to the importance of accessible healthcare in rural Nepal.

Sindhuli Health & Dental Camps — April 1 & 2 🇳🇵

Last week, our team traveled to Sindhuli to conduct two days of health and dental camps in a community where access to care is limited.

The journey itself is not easy—long hours over washed-out mountain roads—but it’s what it takes to reach the people we serve.

Over the course of these two days, we were able to provide care, distribute dental kits, and connect with so many individuals and families.

These camps are more than just services—they are about trust, connection, and showing up where it matters most.

While we were on the ground conducting the camps, we were not always able to share in real time—but we’re grateful to now share a glimpse into this part of the journey.

None of this would be possible without the continued support of those who believe in this mission.

Tomorrow, we leave. 🇳🇵

Over the past two weeks, what began as planning has turned into preparation—and now into action.

Our team has been on the ground gathering supplies, organizing medications, checking equipment, and assembling nearly 500 dental kits—each one put together by hand.

What started as boxes of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss is now something tangible—something that will soon be placed directly into the hands of children and families in communities where access to care is limited.

Each dental kit includes not only essential supplies, but also educational materials designed to promote long-term oral health, along with small touches meant to bring a smile.

Tomorrow morning, we will load everything onto the vehicles and begin the journey to Sindhuli.

The road ahead is not easy. Many sections were washed out during past monsoons, making travel slow and unpredictable. But this is what it takes to reach the communities we serve.

We will conduct medical camps in Sindhuli on April 1 & 2, followed by two additional days in Lahan on April 5 & 6, where we anticipate serving hundreds of patients.

None of this would be possible without the continued support of those who believe in this mission.

We’re ready.
