ᴜᴄ ꜱᴀɴᴛᴀ ᴄʀᴜᴢ ᴀɴᴅ ꜱᴏʟɪᴅᴀʀɪᴛʏ ᴄᴏꜰꜰᴇᴇ ɴᴇᴛᴡᴏʀᴋꜱ

☕ For over 20 years, we have built a cross-border network to support solidarity economies within the production, distribution, and consumption circuits of agroecological coffee, as reflected in AgroEco Coffee. Students at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) have been building relationships of trust and advocating within UCSC for fairer trade and sustainability in procuring coffee.

🙌🏽 Today, AgroEco Coffee is recognized by the student and staff community as the emblematic coffee of UCSC. Through AgroEco Coffee, the university community identifies with values ​​of fair trade, solidarity, and multiculturalism.

🌎 To reconnect students with this legacy of AgroEco Coffee, we were present at the UCSC dinning halls and at the 25th Annual Earth Summit. Through these school events, we aim to reaffirm the relationships of solidarity between farming communities in the Global South and students and staff in cafes in the Global North.

☕ Durante más de 20 años hemos construido una red transfronteriza para sostener economías solidarias con circuitos de producción, circulación y consumo de café agroecológico, que se reflejan en el Café AgroEco. Lxs estudiantes de la Universidad de California Santa Cruz (UCSC) han estado desde los inicios tejiendo relaciones de confianza e incidiendo en la UCSC para tener formas más justas de comercializar el café.

🙌🏽 Hoy el Café AgroEco es reconocido en la comunidad estudiantil y trabajadora como el café emblemático de la UCSC, a través de él la comunidad universitaria se identifica con valores de comercio justo, solidaridad y multiculturalidad.

🌎 Para reconectar a estudiantes a este legado del Café AgroEco, estuvimos presentes en la cafetería de la UCSC y en el 25th Annual Earth Summit. Mediante estos espacios estudiantiles reafirmamos la solidaridad entre comunidades campesinas en el sur y estudiantes y trabajadorxs en las cafeterías del norte.

🌎 On this international day of struggle, we recognize those working to build food sovereignty in both rural and urban areas. This is a special occasion to 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘀 faced by our allies in the student cafeterias at the University of California Santa Cruz (USA), where coffee produced in biodiverse systems by campesina cooperatives in Mexico and Nicaragua is brewed and served.

⚖️ The cafeteria workers are part of the AFSCME union, representing more than 40,000 university workers and demands what is fair for everyone, not just executives and teachers: decent wages, housing subsidies, healthcare, and job security. Given the university administration's refusal to listen to its workers, the union announces an indefinite strike!

✊🏾 Without frontline workers, there is no university!

🌎 En este día de lucha internacional, destacamos a quienes trabajan por la construcción de la soberanía alimentaria desde el campo y la ciudad. Esta es una ocasión especial para 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 que atraviesan nuestros aliados de las cafeterías estudiantiles de la Universidad de California Santa Cruz (EEUU), donde se prepara y se sirve el café producido en sistemas biodiversos de cooperativas campesinas de México y Nicaragua.

⚖️ Los y las trabajadoras de las cafeterías hacen parte del sindicato AFSCME, que representa a más de 40.000 trabajadores de la universidad y reclama lo que es justo para todos, y no solo para los directivos y docentes: salarios dignos, subsidios de vivienda, atención médica y seguridad laboral. ¡Ante la negativa de las directivas de la universidad para escuchar a sus trabajadores, el sindicato anuncia la huelga indefinida!

Mayan Youth Building Self-Organization from Their Territory

📣 The latest issue of Rooted Magazine, which highlights youth leadership in agroecology, is now available. We invite you to read the article by the Maya Zone Youth Collective about their experience in collective self-organization. This group of youth, with whom we had the pleasure of working in the Youth Learning and Practice Community for Agroecology and Marketing (CAJAC), and how are now facilitators at CEAS-Joven Maya.

Juventudes mayas construyendo autogestión desde su territorio

📣 Ya salió el último número de la Revista Rooted que visibiliza los liderazgos de las juventudes en la Agroecología. Les invitamos a leer el escrito del Colectivo Jóvenes de la Zona Maya sobre su experiencia de autogestión colectiva. Un grupo de jóvenes con quienes tuvimos el agrado de trabajar en la Comunidad de Aprendizaje y Práctica de Juventudes para la Agroecología y la Comercialización (CAJAC) y que ahora son facilitadores en CEAS-Joven Maya.

🙌🏽 Celebramos estas historias inspiradoras que, desde las nuevas generaciones, dan continuidad a los sistemas alimentarios tradicionales sostenidos por las mismas comunidades.

ᴄᴏᴍᴍᴜɴɪᴛʏ ʟᴀɴᴅ ꜱᴛʀᴜɢɢʟᴇꜱ ɪɴ ᴘᴀᴊᴀʀᴏ ᴠᴀʟʟᴇʏ, ᴄᴀ!

✊🏾 The day commemorating peasant struggles is approaching, and we want to highlight the resistance of the .campesinas migrant community in California. Three years ago, this campesina organization was arbitrarily evicted from a plot of land they cared for over 13 years. They did not give up! To a new site they continued and reorganized.

🌱 In October 2025, the struggle of Tierras Milperas, along with the allied networks, facilitated the transition of privately owned organic farmland to community land. The organization stewards the land communally through their assembly of 100 families, 28 of whom produce agroecologically on these 4 acres.

🌈 The arrival of Tierras Milperas to this land reconnects farming families, for whom the land remains an ancestral bond. This struggle continues, to liberate the land from private ownership, cultivate agroecology, and reclaim the right to housing and work in this valley.



¡ʟᴜᴄʜᴀꜱ ᴘᴏʀ ᴛɪᴇʀʀᴀꜱ ᴄᴏᴍᴜɴɪᴛᴀʀɪᴀꜱ ᴇɴ ᴇʟ ᴠᴀʟʟᴇ ᴅᴇ ᴘᴀᴊᴀʀᴏ, ᴄᴀ!

✊🏾 Se acerca el día en conmemoración de las luchas campesinas y por eso queremos visibilizar el proceso de resistencia de la comunidad migrante de .milperas en California. Hace 3 años, esta organización campesina fue expulsada de manera arbitraria de un huerto que gestionaba desde hacía más de 13 años. ¡No se resignaron! A otras tierras continuaron para reorganizarse.

🌱 En octubre de 2025, la lucha de Tierras Milperas y redes aliadas propició la transición de unas tierras privadas de cultivo orgánico a tierras comunitarias. La organización gestiona la tierra de forma comunitaria mediante su asamblea de 100 familias, de las cuales 28 producen alimentos agroecológicos en estos 4 acres.

🌈 La llegada de Tierras Milperas a este terreno reconecta a las familias campesinas, para quienes la tierra sigue siendo vínculo ancestral. Esta lucha sigue, para liberar la Tierra de la propiedad privada, sembrar agroecologías y reclamar el derecho al Techo y el Trabajo en este valle.

ꜱᴛʀᴇɴɢᴛʜᴇɴɪɴɢ ᴏꜰ ꜱᴏʟɪᴅᴀʀɪᴛʏ ᴇᴄᴏɴᴏᴍɪᴇꜱ

🤝🏾 CAN is excited to announce that starting in April 2026 Grow Ahead will become the major seed in a new initiative to strengthen the long-term sustainability of youth-led work in agroecology and solidarity economies. This seed will support CAN’s collaboration with n to co-create a Solidarity Revolving Loan Fund collectively governed by and with youth.

🍀 Grow Ahead has decided to redirect its relationships and resources toward this Revolving Fund. This will strengthen CAN’s capacity to connect local agroecological processes and products with donor organizations, environmentally and socially responsible companies, and other actors in the supply chain.

☀️ These collaborations reaffirm our long-term commitment to co-creating agroecological futures that we hope to continue cultivating for generations to come.

🤝🏾CAN se complace en anunciar que, a partir de abril de 2026, Grow Ahead se convertirá en la principal semilla de una nueva iniciativa para fortalecer la sostenibilidad a largo plazo del trabajo liderado por jóvenes en agroecología y economías solidarias. Esta iniciativa apoyará la colaboración de CAN con la para la co-creación de un Fondo Rotatorio de Préstamos Solidarios, gestionado colectivamente por y con jóvenes.

🍀Grow Ahead ha decidido redirigir sus relaciones y recursos hacia este Fondo Rotatorio. De esta manera se fortalecerá la capacidad de CAN para conectar procesos locales y productos agroecológicos con organizaciones donantes, empresas ambiental y socialmente responsables, y otros actores de la cadena de suministro.

☀️ Estas colaboraciones reafirman nuestro compromiso a largo plazo con la creación conjunta de futuros agroecológicos que esperamos continuar cultivando durante varias generaciones.

𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚

👣 The visit and tour of some places in Montes de María played a fundamental role in the exchange. We shared with communities in San Cayetano, María la Baja, Carmen de Bolívar, and Puerto Santander, with the aim of getting to know more closely what makes the territory flourish. There are significant experiences from the organization of women in agroecology, land recovery and the defense of the territory; from reforestation and self-management of water, and with cooperative processes of fishermen and artisans.

☀️ All these processes are a testament to resilience, the regeneration of the social fabric, and peacebuilding, placing solidarity economies, agroecology, water and seed conservation, and the empowerment of women, children, and youth at the center. Several of these initiatives are led by youth from No Hay Como Dios and are supported by

👣 La visita y el recorrido por algunos lugares de Montes de María tuvieron un lugar fundamental en el intercambio. Compartimos con comunidades de San Cayetano, María la Baja, Carmen de Bolívar y Puerto Santander, con el objetivo de conocer más cercanamente lo que hacen florecer en el territorio. Hay experiencias significativas desde la organización de las mujeres en la agroecología, la recuperación de la tierra y la defensa del territorio; desde la reforestación y autogestión del agua, y con procesos cooperativos de pescadores y artesanxs.

☀️ Todos estos procesos son una muestra de resiliencia, regeneración del tejido social y construcción de paz, poniendo en el centro las economías solidarias, la agroecología, el cuidado del agua y las semillas, y el protagonismo de mujeres, infancias y juventudes. ʟᴇᴀʀɴɪɴɢ ʙʏ ꜱʜᴀʀɪɴɢ

🫱🏿‍🫲🏽 The RIAC and CAN planning committees coordinated a work agenda that linked workshops led by each organization. Youth presented the agroecological processes they have been developing in their territories. This year's workshops included: agrohomeopathy, experiences in coexistence and peace, planting according to lunar cycles, and discussions about territorial struggles with the Guanuwa indigenous community.

🪷Although political issues hampered the arrival of youth from Nicaragua, their workshops were not left behind. Youth from the CEAS-Maya process, along with the team and women from the Monte de María communities, joined together to collaborate on workshops such as: Weaving Collective Care, Agroecological Poultry Feeding and Composting. The women participated in this last workshop while we visited their gardens in the María la Baja region.

🫱🏿‍🫲🏽 La comisión de planeación de la RIAC y CAN coordinaron una agenda de trabajo que vinculó talleres impartidos por cada organización. Entre jóvenes se presentaron los procesos agroecológicos que vienen trabajando desde sus territorios. Este año los talleres incluyeron: agrohomeopatía, experiencias de convivencia y paz, siembras con ciclos lunares y pláticas sobre luchas territoriales con la comunidad indígena Guanuwa.

🪷 Aunque asuntos políticos dificultaron la llegada de jóvenes de Nicaragua, sus talleres no se dejaron atrás. Jóvenes del proceso de CEAS-Maya con el equipo de y las mujeres de las comunidades de Monte de María, se sumaron para colaborar con talleres como: Tejiendo cuidados colectivos, alimentos agroecológicos de aves y elaboración de compostas. Este último taller fue acompañado por las mujeres mientras conocíamos sus huertos en la región de María la Baja.

ᴄᴏᴍᴘᴀʀᴛɪᴇɴᴅᴏ ᴠɪᴠᴇɴᴄɪᴀꜱ ᴄᴏᴛɪᴅɪᴀɴᴀꜱ

✨ Este año se abrió un nuevo espacio en el intercambio desde el proceso de NACERS: el 𝘙𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺, un circuito en el Territorio de Conocimientos de la RIAC compuesto de actividades didácticas para interacuar y crear nuevos conocimientos desde los nodos de la RIAC y con las juventudes del intercambio.

🌿 Durante dos días, a través de actividades en cinco estaciones, se dialogó sobre diferentes temas: la casa de semillas, donde abordamos la importancia de la memoria y la palabra; el monte, donde reflexionamos sobre las cosmovisiones y el territorio; el laboratorio comunitario, donde experimentamos desde los saberes campesinos para la vida; los rios, donde llevamos inquietudes y consejos para dar la defensa del territorio, y por ulitmo la asamblea comunitaria, un espacio para ejercer el acuerdo y la palabra sobre lo aprendido en las estaciones anteriores.

💦 Todas estas estaciones representan espacios intergeneracionales para seguir creando formas comunitarias de habitar y defender los territorios.

✨ This year, a new space for exchange from the NACERS process took hold: the Rally, activities in a circuit within the RIAC Knowledge Territory comprised of activities designed to foster interaction and create new knowledges from the RIAC's nodes and those participating in the youth exchange.

🌿 Over two days, through activities at five stations, we discussed different themes: the seed house, where we explored the importance of memory and oral traditions; the forest, where we reflected on community cosmovisions and territory; the community laboratory, where we experimented with traditional farming knowledge for life; the rivers, where we crossed our concerns and advice for defending the territory; and finally, the community assembly, a space for reaching agreements and sharing what we learned at the previous stations.

💦 All these stations represent intergenerational spaces for continuing to create community-based ways of inhabiting and defending territories.

🫕 Con la comida en el centro, como se acostumbra en cada intercambio, cocinamos amistades, alegria y formas cooperativas entre jóvenes, conociendo distintas formas de preparación de alimentos, así como culturas, territorios y sabores. A través del fogón de leña, donde la hoguera, el hogar y la comunidad siempre están presentes, nutrimos el cuerpo y el espíritu.

🪘 Junto con los platos típicos del caribe, los andes y mesoamérica, también bailamos al ritmo de una chalupa con las palpitaciones de los tambores: llamador, alegre, las palmas y tablas como guia. El cierre de nuestro compartir lo disfrutamos con esta música tradicional del Bullerengue, una expresión afrodescendiente que a través de palmas y tambores, rememora la resistencia a la esclavitud y la celebración de la libertad de nuestros pueblos negros.

La 𝘾𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙖 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙙𝙖 no faltó en Montes de Maria y en ella aprendimos a través de semillas y rebeldías.

🫕 With food at the heart of it all, as is customary in every exchange, we cooked up friendships, joy, and cooperative ways of working together as youth, learning about different food preparation methods, as well as cultures, territories, and flavors. Around the wood-burning stove, where the hearth, home, and community are always present, we nourished both body and spirit.

🪘Along with typical Caribbean, Andean, and Mesoamerican dishes, we also danced to the rhythm of a chalupa, accompanied by the pulsating drums: llamador, alegre and handclaps and wooden boards as our guide. We concluded our gathering with this traditional music of Bullerengue, an Afro-descendant expression that, through handclaps and drums, commemorates the resistance to slavery and the celebration of freedom for our Black communities.

𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘒𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘯 was not lacking in Montes de Maria, and in it we learned through seeds and rebellions.

🌴Después de largas horas de viaje cargadas de grandes expectativas por un nuevo intercambio internacional, las delegaciones de jóvenes de la Red Internacional de Agroecología Comunitaria RIAC-Joven llegaron al territorio caribeño de los Montes de María. La llegada estuvo marcada por el reencuentro con las amistades, la emoción de conocer nuevos procesos y la alegría por los días de trabajo que comenzaban.

🙌🏿 Los anfitriones de No hay Como Dios y Corporación Desarrollo Solidario recibieron al grupo con una calurosa bienvenida y un mandala de apertura como agradecimiento a la madre tierra. Una de las primeras actividades de integración fue el tejido de las telas con la imagen del intercambio sobre una mochila tradicional. Con este ejercicio las mujeres de la comunidad recordaron que tejer fortalece los lazos comunitarios, permite construir memoria y ayuda a afianzar vínculos con las nuevas generaciones.

🌴After long hours of travel filled with great anticipation for a new international exchange, the youth delegations from the Red Internacional de Agroecología Comunitaria RIAC-Joven arrived in the Caribbean region of Montes de María. The arrival was marked by reuniting with friends, the excitement of learning about new processes, and the joy of the work days that were beginning.

🙌🏿 The hosts from No hay como Dios and Corporación Desarrollo Solidario welcomed the group with a warm welcome and an opening mandala as a gesture of gratitude to Mother Earth. One of the first integration activities was weaving fabrics with the exchange's image onto a traditional bag. Through this activity, the women of the community were reminded that weaving strengthens community ties, allows for building collective memory, and helps solidify bonds with new generations.
