Today, October 12th, marks Indigenous Peoples’ Day. 🌎

We want to take the time to acknowledge our Indigenous community members who have added so much culture and strength to our organization. 🫶

We want to acknowledge the contributions Native and Indigenous people have made to science. 🔬 Without their knowledge, some scientific practices would not be possible today.

We want to continue to uplift Indigenous voices every day and provide a space where our members can be seen and uplifted. ✨

Today is Orange Shirt Day.

Originating in Canada, Orange Shirt Day is a national day for truth and reconciliation remembering residential and boarding schools. Schools where culture, identity, and language was stripped from Indigenous/Native American children in both the US and Canada. The orange shirt represents residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad, who on first day of residential school at the age of 6, her new orange shirt had been taken away from her.

We at SACNAS want to acknowledge the damage and continued effects boarding/residential schools have on Native communities.
