🥗 The Salad Feast tradition at Gateway continues!

Each year, our Life Lab Garden hosts a special Salad Feast for every grade, bringing students and families together to celebrate all that students have learned in the garden throughout the year. Families gather to hear reflections from students and enjoy fresh produce that the students helped grow and harvest themselves. 🌾

Each class chooses its own salad toppings, making every Salad Feast a unique experience and one of Gateway’s most beloved traditions. Here are a few moments from this year’s 5th Grade Salad Feast 🌿

A special shoutout to our Life Lab Garden team for all the care and hard work that goes into making this tradition possible. Thank you as well to all the families who contributed and joined us in celebrating this year! 💚

⛳️ We’re tee-rifically excited to kick off golf season at Gateway with Coach Z!

Students are building focus, patience, coordination, perseverance, and confidence while learning the game twice a week.

One of the many things we love about golf is how it encourages students to embrace being beginners, trust the process, and develop a growth mindset through both successes and challenges.

We’re looking forward to a great season ahead! 🌿🏌️‍♂️

💫 Last Friday, our students had the privilege of learning from Gitta Ryle, a longtime Santa Cruz resident.

Born in Austria, Gitta was just seven years old when her mother sent her and her sister to France to escape N**i occupation. She spent the next seven years in hiding, and today, she shares her story with students to help them understand this history through a personal lens.

Prior to her visit, fifth graders explored the experiences of children in hiding during World War II through classroom lessons, while middle school students built on their history studies. Hearing Gitta’s story allowed students to make meaningful connections while reflecting on courage, difficult choices, and the importance of helping others.

Gitta also spoke about her journey toward healing and the ways she has found peace, offering students a powerful example of resilience and hope.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from her and carry these lessons forward 💛
