Colonial Flag Foundation

Colonial Flag Foundation Building unity one community at a time. Host a Healing Field® or Field of Honor® flag display Read Paul’s story.

Colonial Flag Foundation was organized in 2003 shortly after the first Healing Field® display was orchestrated by Paul Swenson, president of Colonial Flag in Sandy, Utah. That first event was organized as a way to visualize the sheer enormity of human loss that occurred in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. But, as hundreds of volunteers gathered to help, it soon became evident that some

thing much more was emerging. It became a personal gesture of support, a tangible expression of mourning, and a very real healing experience. Colonial Flag Foundation provides the resources and support to help you gain exposure and raise funds for your cause. By associating with our nationally-recognized, respected brand, and following our program, you will enjoy a successful event, reach your goals and make a positive impact in your community.

Today we remember with profound respect the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks: men, women, and children whose lives were taken that day, as well as those who were forever changed by that tragedy.

In front of the ruins of the World Trade Center, three New York firefighters raised the American flag. That image became a symbol of grief, courage, unity, and hope.

In Sandy, Utah, sculptor Stan Watts transformed that historic photograph into Hope Rising, a bronze sculpture approximately 9 feet tall. The monument was unveiled on September 10, 2011, marking the tenth anniversary of the attacks.

But beyond the bronze and the image it represents, this monument reminds us of those who were there: the victims, firefighters, police officers, rescuers, workers, and citizens who faced one of the most painful days in our history.

May we never forget.

May their lives never be reduced to a date.

May their memory endure.

Field of Flags is more than a beautiful display of American flags. It is a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together with one heart, one purpose, and a shared sense of gratitude.

Seeing our local police officers placing flags throughout the Field of Flags in Sandy City is a meaningful example of service, respect, and community spirit. Each flag represents a story, a sacrifice, a loved one, and the freedoms we are grateful to share.

The Field of Flags brings people together — neighbors, families, first responders, volunteers, veterans, and community leaders — creating a place where we can pause, remember, and appreciate what unites us.

At Colonial Flag Foundation, we believe that honoring our heroes and remembering those who have served and sacrificed is something we do together.

We pause to honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our country. Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedom we live every day.
This Memorial Day, we remember the heroes who never made it home, the families who carry their legacy, and the enduring spirit of service that defines America.
From all of us at Colonel Flack, thank you to those who served, sacrificed, and will never be forgotten.
