Pool season is upon us 😎.

For those of you unfamiliar with this local business, White Towers is a community pool located in White City, a township nestled in the heart of Sandy City. It is operated and maintained by volunteers. Great vibes, great times, and great memories; I frequented this pool as a kid and always enjoyed it.

Consider supporting this small community pool this summer, which can be as simple as enjoying the pool itself, buying some snacks from their snack bar, or even volunteering.

This week’s local spotlight is Tiburon Fine Dining!

Sandy has been lucky enough to have Tiburon around for over 20 years. While Tiburon may appear just like any other pretty house on the outside, the interior is upscale and romantic. They have a manicured patio area and a sunroom that are both perfect for those beautiful fall evenings. Tiburon is unique in that it has its own culinary garden (Le Potager) that is certified as a wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. It was raining too hard for me to get any pictures of it unfortunately.

Tiburon is a “special occasion” kind of place. This was our first time going, but we will definitely be back! For starters we got the Braised Pork Belly, which was melt in your mouth decadence. Chris got the House Special New Zealand Elk and I got the Tenderloin of Beef; both were excellent. I was initially torn between the Cowboy Ribeye and the Tenderloin mostly because of the gorgonzola cream sauce that comes on the ribeye, but our waitress was nice enough to ask the chef to put the gorgonzola cream sauce on the tenderloin for me. We were both too stuffed for dessert, but their dessert menu looked divine (especially the crème brûlée). For those that partake, Tiburon has a wide wine selection and a full bar with a focus on local distilleries.

Tiburon Fine Dining is open seven nights a week with seating beginning at 5:00pm. Reservations are strongly encouraged. You can even request seating for large parties or private dining as long as you give them some advance notice.

This week’s local spotlight is Vintage Oak Furniture!

Vintage Oak Furniture is a family-owned and operated business that sells high quality, solid wood, and genuine leather furniture. A lot of their furniture is American made and they even have some brands that are Utah made! They've been in business for 44 years and we’ve been lucky enough to have them in Sandy for 20 of those years.

The Vintage Oak Furniture showroom is laid-back and no-pressure. They carry a wide selection of great looking pieces in many different styles (farmhouse, industrial, rustic, etc). Their inventory includes couches, armchairs, dining tables, coffee tables, end tables, desks, bookshelves, curio cabinets, bar stools… you name it and they probably carry it. One of the best parts about buying from Vintage Oak is that you can customize your order (match your other furniture or customize for a new specific look).

Vintage Oak is open Monday-Saturday from 10am-5pm. Stop on by and take a look around, you may just find something you'll love!

This week’s local spotlight is Simply Thai!

Simply Thai is a family-owned restaurant that’s been around for a while. This was my first time dining with them but Chris used to go all the time with his coworkers before COVID shut everything down last year. They have a great lunch menu with a lot of affordable specials. Chris got the Chicken Gang Massaman and I got the Pineapple Curry. Mine was sweet with some curry warmth, the perfect comfort food for a fall day. We also got some Satay Chicken and Mango Sticky Rice for dessert (both my favorites no matter where we go). Everything was tasty, the portions were generous, and the prices reasonable.

Simply Thai’s hours are a little unique in that they close for two hours in the afternoon between 3pm-5pm to take a break and prepare for dinner service. They are open Monday-Saturday 11am-3pm for lunch, Monday-Thursday 5pm-9pm for dinner and Friday-Saturday 5pm-10pm for dinner. They offer take-out as well as dine-in options.

This week’s local spotlight is Pulp Lifestyle Kitchen!

Pulp started out as a juice bar inside a Salt Lake City gym and was so popular that they now have a couple of different locations in the Wasatch Front.. Pulp tries hard to use local sources for produce food when in season. They also partner with other local companies like Sunnte and Publik, so they really try hard to help out other local businesses. We stopped in for a quick smoothie not realizing that they do full meals, and I wish we’d had more time to sit down and enjoy one because they all sounded good. They offer breakfast food all day (things like Breakfast Bagels, Breakfast Bowls, Pancakes, Pulp Benedict, etc) and have a “later” menu (sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads, bowls, etc) they offer from 10:30am to close. Next time I go in I’m planning on getting a Shareable Charcuterie or a Sano Bowl. The smoothies we got were the Tropic Thunder and the Silverback Gorilla. Both were tasty and refreshing. Even though they don’t add any sugar or sweeteners to their smoothies, my Silverback Gorilla was still naturally sweet enough. I can already tell Pulp is going to become a regular haunt for me.

Pulp Lifestyle Kitchen is open Monday-Friday from 8am-8pm and Saturday from 9am-5pm. They offer dine-in and take-out services. If you’d like to order take-out, you can either go through their drive-through or order online and pickup in store. Similar to almost every other food joint around, they are also hiring.

This week’s local spotlight is Los Garcia!

Los Garcia is a locally owned and operated Mexican restaurant with a traditional menu. Chris got the Enchiladas Chile Verde and I got the Enchiladas Suizas. Both were great; the Suizas sauce was flavorful, but not too spicy and Chris said the Chile Verde is some of the best he’s had in our valley. Also had to celebrate the holiday weekend with some fun drinks, so we got a Pina Colada Daquiri and a Peach Margarita. Service was friendly and fast. Planning on getting dessert next time we go since there will definitely be a next time; their Arroz con Leche in particular sounds amazing.

Los Garcia is open Monday-Thursday 10am-9pm and Friday-Saturday 10am-10pm. Los Garcia has indoor and outdoor dining as well as offering take-out (you just have to call in to place an order). For savvy-diners that would like great food at a bargain, they run lunch specials on weekdays. They are also hiring!

This week's local spotlight is Yogurt Stop!

Yogurt Stop was a high school favorite and it’s just as good as we remember. For those that haven’t been, Yogurt Stop is a build-your-own frozen yogurt bar. They offer several different types of frozen yogurt (cheesecake, chocolate, fudge brownie, peach, peanut butter, raspberry, strawberry shortcake, tart, and vanilla) and 40+ topping options. Yogurt is charged by the weight, so you have a lot of control not only of what goes in your frozen dessert, but also of how much it costs. To give you an idea of cost, we purchased two loaded frozen yogurt cups and paid around $11 (including tax). We discovered that Chris is much better at building tasty frozen yogurt cups than I am (he claims practice makes perfect). In addition to DIY frozen yogurt, Yogurt Stop also offers smoothies and boba drinks. This is a great place for a fun, laid-back date night or even just a family activity.

Yogurt Stop is open 11am-10pm Monday-Thursday, 11am-10:30pm Friday and Saturday, and 1pm-10pm on Sundays. They have comfortable indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. They are also HIRING for anyone interested.

This week’s local spotlight is Sego Lily Bakery!

Sego Lily Bakery is a cottage bakery that has been making tasty treats since 2019. It’s run by a husband-and-wife team that both just kept hearing “you guys really should start a business and sell these”. Devan and Nicole work with their customers to customize just about any dessert for their event, whether it be a birthday cake, treats to pass out at church, desserts for showers and other types of parties, or even just a family get-together. Chris and I have ordered from them several times (Christmas tart, Valentine’s box, a custom birthday cake, and now a box of tarts) and everything has looked perfect and been super yummy. The tarts we got were a chocolate cherry, salted caramel and chocolate, peanut butter and chocolate, and a French apple. All of them were good, but the salted caramel and the French apple were our favorites.

Sego Lily Bakery doesn’t have a physical location, so they don’t have any set hours. They are, however, very prompt in responding to inquiries and can be contacted through their website or through their page. Check out the pics for some examples of their amazing custom baked goods! They will occasionally run holiday specials and limited availability items, so go and give their page a “like” so that you don’t miss anything!
