Our Story

In the thirty years since our inception, Camp It Up! has served more than 3,000 campers and 500 families. Our campers are a wonderful mix: le***an, gay, bi, transgender, single-parent, adoptive, multi-racial and heterosexual families, as well as adults without children. We are proud of our eclectic community and are especially proud to have been the first family camp in the country to do particular outreach to the LGBT community. Over the years, we have seen a generation of children grow from babies to college students to graduates building their careers. Our community has celebrated many births, adoptions, commitment ceremonies, career changes, retirements and other life rituals. Sharing the joys and losses in our lives are the ties that bind us together as we grow. We currently offer both a summer camp and a winter camp family experience. The summer camp program takes place at Oakland Feather River Camp in Quincy, California typically the last weekend in July through the first weekend in August. Activities are offered for everyone in the family. Some activities are for children only and some are for adults to enjoy; many activities are planned for the entire family. All activities are optional. A few highlights include: Arts and Crafts, Tie-dye, silk-painting, carpentry, mosaic tiling, softball, Quidditch, Capture the Flag. Children and adults participate in the Camp musical r***e, camper chorus and talent show. Evening Programs feature an all-camp family activity. We have the best dances ever! Plus there is also massage, Pilates, yoga, cabin decoration, swimming and floating in beautiful Spanish Creek at the camp beach and much more. Winter Camp takes place over the President's Day weekend each February at Camp Richardson Resort in South Lake Tahoe. Like the summer camp experience, there is programming for everyone in the family: sledding, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, hot tub, smores at the fire pit, and an evening talent for all families to watch and or participate in. Come join us and find out why this has been a beloved annual tradition for so many families for 30 years.
