Black Women Birthing Justice BWBJ is a collective of African-American, African, Caribbean and multiracial women who are committed to transforming birthing experiences of Black women.

Black Women Birthing Justice is a collective of African-American, African, Caribbean and multiracial women who are committed to transforming birthing experiences for Black women. Our vision is that that every woman should have an empowering birthing experience free of unnecessary medical interventions. Our goals are to educate women to advocate for themselves, to document birth stories and to raise awareness about birthing alternatives. We aim to challenge medical violence, rebuild women’s confidence in giving birth naturally and decrease disproportionate maternal mortality.

am so humbled to receive this award from the amazing organization Black Mamas Matter Alliance. Being a birth and postpartum doula for 36 years has been the most rewarding work ever! That I have been a special part of so many women and families over the years is one of my greatest joys. My work in advocating for safe and non-traumatic birth outcomes for Black women is where my heart lies now…both in the Bay Area and in Tanzania. Thank you …I feel so very honored!
