Miles are already getting logged for Women with Cancer! 🎗️🏊🏆 Swimmer Ryan Phillips completed his 70+ pool lengths earlier this week and sent in photo proof! Ryan swam in memory of his mother-in-law, who passed away from cancer, and his son, who also died while in hospital care. He has raised an incredible $700 (so far!) that will support WCRC programs like our two financial assistance programs, and provide practical support like transportation to and from medical appointment for WCRC Patient Navigation clients!

What makes the annual Swim A Mile / Move A Mile important to Ryan? "I love challenging myself physically, joining in community, and supporting causes I believe in. I know what it's like to navigate the bureaucratic mess that is the American healthcare system, and that is a key function of WCRC."

Participant Spotlight: Edward "Eddy" Gesley

For years, the WCRC Swim A Mile | Move A Mile was something Eddy did with his mom. They trained together, showed up together, and cheered on friends from their church and community who were also in the water. This will be his 6th time participating.

His mom passed away in 2023. This year, he'll swim alone for the first time.

Eddy grew up going to the Mills College pool with his mom, and even worked there as a lifeguard for a few years. When friends and family began experiencing cancer, she found the event and brought him along. Now he carries that forward.

If you are on the fence about participating, Eddy has simple advice: "Do it! It is a good workout, a fun time before and after, and helps support those in need."

Elisabeth will be joining our 31st Annual Swim A Mile | Move A Mile event for her third year in a row!

Swimming a mile used to sound daunting for Elisabeth, and now it's routine. She swims because she had incredible support when she needed it most, and she wants every woman facing cancer to have that same support.

For her, this event is more than a workout. It's remembrance. It's gratitude. It's purpose!
